tach issue, 2003 cadillac seville sts

have a ultrastart g11-xr with xk01 bypass going into a 2003 cadillac seville sts. under options changed to tach-less. unable to tach learn. BLUE ignition wire has +12v during the start and on position. lock, unlock, trunk all work but lights flash 7 times when attempting to remote start. (system did not detect the tach signal) really want to stay out of the engine compartment. Tried sys reset multiple times. Only thing I can think of is the xk01 does not have the right vehicle type programed in. If I reset it using option 8 will I have to re-flash? any other ideas?

reset xk01, set to correct vehicle type, reset RS-- still won't learn tach signal. any ideas short of hard wiring the tach wire?

If your locks work, the XK01 must be good.

However, even though the XK01 is obviously getting power, ground, and lock/unlock signals, you should still make sure its brown wire is getting a steady ground whenever the remtoe starter is activated....if it doesn't, it won't bypass your Passkey 3, and the car won't be able to remote start even if the rest of the remote starter were perfect.

At the driver's underdash, around where your left foot would be if you were sitting in the car, should be a harness entering the passenger compartment through the firewall. Look in there for a white tach wire. The Devilles have it, and the Seville is more or less the same car but with a different body and dashboard.

Also, I've only installed just a few Ultra starters, but it sounds like you already tried resetting the unit and going through programming. But if I remember right, if it doesn't automatically learn the first time you start the car with the key, there's a way to go into a programming menu and select tach or tachless.

ended up running a wire through the firewall to top of engine and tapped a violet/white ignition coil wire. worked fine (after RS reset).
was unable to ever get tachless to work (even after changing programing)

now I just hope heated seats, defrost work in the morning. no way to test until it gets cold.

I have tried to go Tachless several times on the G11 models with no success.  In the  Ultra Start G11 install guide, page 15, Menu 4 Setting 1, Tach/Tachless has an asterick next to it with the note at the bottom of the page saying "Future Use".  Always ended up going to a good tach source as you did.  Just make a good solder connection and use a couple of Tie Wraps to secure you wire away from anything that will chaff it.

I think they will work. Let me know how it works out for you, as I think I'll use an XK01 in my 2000 Deville. It's the only module available that does window rollup.

The literature states that the heated accessories will activate at 32*F or below, but without further detail.

I don't believe the XK01 has its own temperature sensor; they must be reading one of the car's various temperature sensors through data. It's probably the engine temperature, though it's hard to be sure, as they don't provide further information.

I would guess that the heated accessories will probably only activate when you park the car long enough for the (large) engine to completely cool down. I'm thinking that even if it's super-cold out, they're not going to come on after you park for a short time at the supermarket or coffee shop. But let me know; I'm curious too.
