I ran into a senerio with a 2006 GMC Sierra and a Python 872 with a DLPKGM. I originally wired the DLPKGM per the installation manual which only ignition, OBD2, and Tach wired up. Unit auto learned without any problems. Everything fully functions but when you get on the xpressway, battery light always came on with random other lights messages.
I ended up finding a supplement wiring diagram on their website for just about every vehicle. This diagram shows the door trigger wired up. Didn't think that could be the cause of the christmas tree dash, but I wired it up. Still happened. BUT, I didn't do an auto learn after connecting it. Since there is 12v on this line during auto learn, it must change the way the DLPKGM communicates with my specific vehicle.
The auto learn procedure however is wrong on the supplement document. Doesn't tell you to unlock with the remote.
Does this sound right?
Also, the new manuals on their website for the DLPKGM show software version 3.0, but I'm at 1.0. I can't find the revision history anywhere and am curious on what changes have occurred.

I'm having a similar issue with a DLPKGM in my current install. Although I'm getting no communication with the module, it won't exit the auto learn, LED keeps flashing after vehicle is started. I too didn't hook the door trigger up that was listed in the supplemental install at first because it wasn't a vehicle connection and assumed it was not necessary. I later hooked it up to a negative door trigger on the vehicle.
I'm not sure which programming directions to follow because I have found at least 2 different procedures. I tried the supplemental instructions and those didn't work and I tried the programming instructions on the main install document also with no luck. Main document instructions made more sense because they mention activating D2D by pressing lock and make some reference to it. I don't know if there is a master reset on this module or if reprogramming is sufficent after trying different methods.
You have to have it wired up like the supplemental drawing, but follow the procedure in the main manual. The procedure in the supplement does not have the step for pressing unlock on the remote. For my GMC Sierra installation, the green wire from the DLPKGM needs to go to the (-) door trigger on the alarm system, not on the vehicle.
For my installation, the DLPKGM was only wired to the vehicle for the OBD II connection and the Ingition Connection. The supplement shows on the wiring picture whether the connection is at the vehicle or at the alarm/starter.
I never had the issue with the unit coming out of autolearn however. Double check the wiring.

I don't see why I would need the door trigger input if I'm not using an alarm. (same goes for tach, its an ouput to the Alarm/RS) These are all outputs from the module, they shouldn't be inputs and the Avital 4103 doesn't use a door trigger input for anything. That's why I just hooked it up to the vehicle anyways when it wasn't programming. If the door trigger mattered I would hope they would specify door open/door closed during programming. The only reason you need to press lock (or unlock in your case) from what I read is to put the unit into D2D mode.
I had 2 wires to hook up outside of D2D; Ign and Data. I know Ign is good because it goes from solid LED to flashing when I key on and I confirmed purple data wire went to pin2 on OBD2 port. Only thing else I've come up with on this particular model is to ground the unlock driver 2 wire but I believe that is only with issues regarding brake pedal status over the bus and it deactivates that signal.
I'm only spending a few more mins on this module when I work on the car again and then I'm pulling it. I'm very patient with wiring hiccups and the like but this is getting ridiculous.
mikemaynard25, just wanted to thank you for posting this. I installed a 5901 (06 silverado) with dlpkgm and my battery light and airbag light kept comming on. I found the suppliment and wired the door trigger. No more random lights!! Thanks for pointing that out. I was going crazy!
