Do I have to run both these wires to the hood pin switch or just the grey w/ black? I want the RS safty feature and hood to trigger the alarm feature to both work.

Grey w/ Black Trace Wire: Negative Inhibit Input Plus Trigger When Armed
The Grey w/ Black Trace wire provides an instant shutdown for the Remote Start Control Module
whenever it is grounded also trigger for the alarm when armed. Connect the Grey w/ Black trace
wire to the hood pin switch previously installed. This wire must be routed through a grommet in
the firewall and connected to the hood pin switch. If the pin switch is to be used with an alarm
system, connect this wire using the diode assembly provided.

Note this input, if grounded, will also trigger the alarm if it is armed

Dark Green Wire: (-) Instant Trigger Input
This is the instant on ground trigger input wire. This wire must be connected to the hood and
trunk pin switches previously installed.
NOTE: This wire will be shunted when remote control channel 3 is accessed, (trunk release).
This wire will remain shunted all the while there is ground present and for 5 seconds after the
ground is removed. This allows the operator to open the trunk via the remote transmitter without
having to first disarm the alarm system

Should trigger just fine with only one of those hooked up.

The green will only trigger the alarm, not shut down the RS. Use the Gray/black under the hood and it will do both....

You didn't mention the car or the product, but sounds like Audiovox.

As the others said:

Gray/black should go to the hood switch. It will disable the remote start AND trigger the alarm if the hood is opened.

The dark green wire should go to the car's trunk trigger wire. If someone breaks into the trunk the alarm will trigger, but opening the trunk won't kill the remote start.

Also, as stated in the instructions, if you use the remote to open the trunk, the alarm will ignore the green wire, so you can load/unload your trunk even when the alarm is armed.

The part of the instructions that mentions using the included diode pack is a poor cut-and-paste job from older Audiovox manuals. With current product, use of the diode pack is not necessary.
