once remote start can i use nontrans key?

Bought a used 2005 Titan that only came with one key. After I install my Viper 5301 and DLPK Immobilizer bypass NKR, can I insert a generically made key without the transponder chip in it?

I figured after it's remote started the key doesn't need a chip, just needs a key capable of turning it to "on."

Was hoping to pay $5 for extra keys opposed to the $60 I was quoted for a transponder key. Thanks in advance for any help.

call a local lock smith and have them program a key for you without cutting it. take that key and put that into a keyinbox.

or you can get a data bypass and have th edealer cut you another key. since you need both to program if i remember

Yes, you can do what you're hoping to do.

Once the engine is started and running, the transponder is no longer necessary. You can use a regular key from the hardware store to do takeover and drive the car.

Just keep in mind that if the Viper's remote should fail, or its battery die, you'll be stranded.

You might want to use the non-transponder key only as a spare, just for moving the car, say, from your driveway to park it on the street, rather than for long trips.

If you plan to use the non-transponder key on a regular basis, you could connect the Viper's WHITE/ blue "start activation" input to a momentary switch hidden under the dash.......if the remote fails, just hit the button and the remote starter will still start the engine.

Abetter idea might be to connect the status wire on the bypass to a momentary switch. This way whether the remote OR the remote start fails you can still start the truck....

You would have to remote start it to do so, or connect a switch to ground as mentioned above whenever you want to start it with a non-chip key. Why you would do this is another questions except for backup purposes, since the DLPK does not require a key, it is data.

The thought was purely for backup purposes. I also have a 2006 Maxima with the identical scenario and didn't want to pay for transponder keys for 2 vehicles and programming if a Walmart key will work. Now I can get 2 keys for cheap from Walmart tomorrow (for just in case) and buy the transponder keys when money is not as tight. $100+ for 2 keys with programming is crazy
