viper 5101 on saturn vue 06

hello im in process of installing the viper 5101 on a saturn vue 2006.

i installed the complete unit and found that it will only start for about 2-3 seconds. i did not install the key bypass on it yet cause i wanted to make sure the unit was working before i started the 2nd part of this. i check for the diagnose code and it flashes once. not even sure if that is a correct fault. (p.s. the key is just left in the ignition at the rest position not turned) anyone have any idea.

yes you have to wire up the bypass module to properly test the system....  leaving the key in the IGN does nothing for a Passlock system.......

did you learn tach yet??

 i will hook up the bypass moudle and try that. i even hard wired the tach signal to the coil i used a yellow wire that was there?? then i retried once again just with the key in the ignition. still just started and shutt down for like 2-3 seconds. i did the program that it said and everything whent correctly from what i seen. retried same thing (p.s. i dont have the led pluged in that shouldnt cause an issue??)

as i have already told you... leaving the key in the IGN does nothing for a passlock system as there is no chip in the key.....

leaving the key n the ignition does you no good theres no chip in the key, its built in to the ignition switch and the proper resistance is sent to the bcm during crank, you might want to make sure you start the car before you go any further cause if youve started it often enough without the proper resistance your gonna go into passlock tamper mode or lockup, make sure car starts with the key first, then wire in your passlock bypass before trying the remote start, program your byapss then test

i will do that, i have started it several times with the key in the ignition and trying i guess i was lucky that vehicle started after the fact with the key. i did read up on that. i was thrown of track due to someone told me to test the unit with they key in the ignition. i will have the vehicle back in the garage on sat and i will program the moudle and then retest the system. i thank you for all the info and then i shall post what happened. thank you for the mean time.

Where did you grab tach? I did an 04 2 days ago and had to dig deep for that tach wire. An 06 could be different, just be sure it tests accordingly.

as far as the tach wire i found the coil on top of the engine and i was told not to use two of the wires (cant remember what ones dont have the papers in front of me) so i picked a yellow one. what am i looking for on the test result??? is it a certain voltage??

Set your meter to AC (if it's autoranging it will automatically just detect it) and connect the positive lead to tach wire and negative lead to ground with the car running. As it's connected, SLOWLY increase rpm's and you should see the voltage rise/dip accordingly with the rpms...

just want to say thank you for all the help on this, i had the car back on sunday and programed the tach so yes yellow wire on the coil for a 2006 saturn vue will work for tach signal. also the idatalink moudle that i used appears to be working great on this vehicle. it was posted on another form on this site that i did not need the pink wire, the pink wire must be used just to program the moudle with the ignition feed of the remote start. once it is programed then its removed and no longer used. other then that it was great. thanks to all for the help,.... gil
