Subject: right antenna for 2002 model dei alarm?
Date Posted: February 02, 2010 at 10:56 AM

This is my first post, so apologize ahead of time if this question has been answered, although I have looked.

I have a 2003 model DEI alarm coupled with a Valet remote Start in a 96 dodge ram truck. The Alarm remote activates the Remote Start, but the range is less than acceptable. I purchased the DEI 542 Range extender remote, but I am having trouble finding a plug on the alarm "brain "module to connect to . The alarm module has a ft. long wire coming from inside for the antenna, but I really need to extend it. Will the DEI antenna I have work with this alarm, since it has the four port plug, or do I need to find another, or try different method? Thanks for your help! Greg

Not right off hand i don't know.  I will have to get under the dash tonight and look.  I was under the impression that the connections were mostly the same across the board on DEI products.

one of my alrams uses a 4 pin antenna, and the other a 2 pin is why I asked. both are DEI

The antenna is a four pin, but only has a green. red, and black (3 ) wires.  I am having trouble finding where to plug it to my alarm brain tho.  Thanks!

So if there is no port, what are my options to extend the range of the alarm remote?

Well since that would be a pain and kinda senseless, what would happen if i took the green and red wires from the antenna and soldereed them to the antenna wire coming from the alarm box, then grounded the black wire from the antenna?

I dunno! Never tried it!

It's only one core of wire inside that insulation anyway, why not just take a strand of wire and extend it! Who knows, it just might work!

Yeah I tried splicing the red and green wires to the alarm wire from the antenna  and soldered it.  I grounded the black wire to a screw also. The alrm worked really wel and had anextremely long range until after the first time I took my truck out and drove it, then the alarm lost it's range again.  Any ideas?

So IF I decide to upgrade to a newer DEI alarm, will I be able to use the wiring harnesses that are already installed in my truck??

Depends on the system you're upgrading to!

Give me the model! I may be able to assist you with a replacement that would not require much altercations to the existing wiring!

I looked at the SN sticker and it showed 050080200--3 A12 under that it says ( do not remove sticker )

I want to upgrade to an unpdated version with more range without switching wiring harnesses if possible.

The Alarm is an early 2000 DEI two channel basic alarm

On the control module there should be a number like 300+, Or 300esp, depending on the line of the product! The remote also should have the name of the line, whether it be viper or python and so forth! A viper 350hv should suit you fine though!

Thank for your help. I will look on the remote to see what I can find out.  With the Viper 350 would it be pretty much a change out of the brain and mounting of the antenna?  Thanks

Most likely! But if you confirm the model  I will be able to tell you for sure!

I made a mistake! The alarm is an audiovox/prestige APS95BT35.  The CPU has a single wire coming from it for the antenna.  Is there an updated audiovox/prestige alarm out there that I can just switch out the CPU and not the wiring that has an extended range?  Thanks
