prostart won’t enter ready mode

I just installed a prostart in my 4runner. It won't work when following the method of putting it into ready mode - with the truck running and the parking brake engaged, it won't do anything no matter how long you hold the button, and the truck always shuts off with the key.

The unit does lock and unlock the doors as it should, including when you press the brake pedal after the first start, so I believe it's hooked up right. I've done an automatic tach read and it worked fine.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I bought the unit used (poor as hell) so it's possible it just doesn't work.

thought it was press buton then pull hand brake or two pulls on hand brake

Says in the manual to apply the parking brake, then press either button on the remote - the unit should flash the lights three times. It doesn't do anything.

on the prostarts the procedure is
while the vehicle is running put it in neutral now while holding down the brake pedal put parking brake on then release brake pedal. now press the start button on remote.lights should blink at you then remove key and vehicle should stay running. get out close the door and then press the lock button on remote for about 2 sec. vehicle should shut-down. also not saying you didn't do already but did you cut the little yellow loop on the prostart module?

I'll try doing it with the brake pedal pressed. And no, I didn't know you had to cut anything on the module - where exactly is it?

only on the newer units, there will be a yellow loop. DO NOT CUT !!!

when cut it will be set for automatic.

I got the door pin trigger at the wire coming out of the drivers' door (I know it should be a wire that triggers for either door but I couldn't find it and I couldn't really be bothered), but it goes to ground with the door open.

I got the parking brake wire from the parking brake switch, which goes to ground when the brake is applied, but for some reason doesn't go completely disconnected from ground when the parking brake is disengaged - I still have to look at the EWD for that to see what's up. It has about 50 ohm resistance to ground with the brake disengaged, or measures like 8 volts. In any case, I don't think that's the problem right now, because I've since removed that connection and tried connecting it to ground when I want the unit to think the brake has been applied, and still no change.

Well, I tried it with holding the brake, and it still won't do anything. I double checked all the crucial connections and they're all fine.. so I guess I just installed a keyless entry unit. I have a feeling the module is broken in some capacity - what do you wanna bet the PO installed it wrong and fried it or something?

Anyone have a spare CT-3160 module lying around (or any other module with the same pinouts)?
