finding a kill switch

hello guys, I just purchased a 00 civic ek and it has an autopage rs900 installed im no pro installer but i can spot a sketchy install when i see one wires all over the place but anyways my problem is the car will start with the remote onle. the key alone will not start it so im thinking it has a kill switch but i cant find it. how can i logically look for this? i started taking the unit out to reinstall nice and neat. any help appreciated thanks.

The first thing to do is figure out what is being cut (ie is the ignition turning on but the starter won't crank, is the ignition turning on and the starter cranks but the car doesn't run, does the starter crank but the ignition doesn't turn on?).

Then, find the appropriate wire for whatever isn't working and trace it from start to finish.  Somewhere, if there is a kill switch, there would have be a splice and wiring going to that switch.

You're looking for a break in a BLACK/ white wire.

You definitely do want to try to fix this, because if the system fails, or you lose the remote or it breaks or its little battery fails, you'll be stranded because you can't start the car with the key.

See on the bottom there are two lines, and each line has a letter X, and then lines going to the relay?

Well, the letters X in this case signify that the car's factory wire was cut in half, and the two halves are splice into the relay where the X's are.

There should be some thick wires going from the remote starter, connected to some thick wires coming down from the car's ignition switch......they should just be spliced right into the factory wires. The only exception would be the car's BLACK/ white starter wire, which actually gets cut in half and connected to the starter kill relay, as shown in the diagram.

Here are your possible causes:

1. Where Honda's BLACK/ white "from ignition switch" wire splices into the wire going to 87a on the relay, the splice has broken.

2. The relay is defective.   (Relays don't fail often, but it happens occasionally.)

3. The orange wire in the diagram, going to terminal 85 on the relay, is supposed to have a ground signal only when the alarm is on. Whenever it gets a ground, the key can't start the car. Possibilities here: A, the alarm is defective and putting out a ground all the time....B, the alarm is armed and you don't know how do disarm it.....C, the orange wire is frayed and rubbing against the car's body ground somewhere.

4. The alarm is fine, but the car's ignition switch is defective, and isn't putting power on the BLACK/ white wire when you turn the key to the Start position. (I've never seen a defective Honda ignition switch, but anything is possible.)

P.S. If you have a test light or meter and know how to use it, you'll be able to find the problem more quickly, although a few of the things listed above you might find visually.

P.P.S. If you really don't trust the install, you might just eliminate the starter kill relay altogether; it'll just make the car a little easier to steal.

Just look at the two X's in the diagram again, cut the wires 87a and 30 from the relay, and join the car's two halves of the BLACK/ white wire back together again.

(There will also, somewhere along the line, also be another thick wire coming from the Autopage and connected to the BLACK/ white. Leave this in place, or the remote starter won't work anymore.)

now quick question is it absolutely necessary to go through a relay cant I just for example wire a switch straight up(to the starter wire?

The relay is your starter kill relay.  If you don't go through the relay you will lose the starter kill function.

If you do add a kill switch you will need to make sure it is rated for high current.

It isn't absolutely necessary to pass the kill through the relay, but using a high amperage switch does tend to get large, making it difficult to conceal, which kinda defeats the purpose of the switch, not to mention that the relay is the safer way!

there is a wire splice from the key side of the starter and if i ground it the car starts but after repeated tries it feel the the batt is low but it is not im sure of that. its a speaker wire so im thinking its not enough? the relay is the kill switch so what and how do i add the "switch" to start with the key

i understand i can make a number of thigs the "switch" butwhats lines coming out of the relay do i use?

to add the "switch" i would need another relay correct? and to have another device such as the amp turn on i need a diode as well? i have seen the diagrams I just tend to over analyze things sometimes

what gauge wire shoud i be use to extend the wires?
