I recently bought a truck(2000 Silverado) that has a Command Start remote starter system in it. I was told when I bought the truck that it has not worked for years. That being said, I gave it a try. It starts the truck but the starter does not disengage, so it keeps cranking.

From the searching I've done, I've found out there should be a wire that goes to the injector wire, or ignition coil that gets a tach signal (Correct me if I'm wrong). The color of this wire on my truck is green, and it comes through the firewall ties into the wiring on the engine that is covered in the black plastic protector.

The question I have is, Does this sound like a hardware issue, or just needs to be reprogrammed? Also from my searching, I think the unit is a 270i with  cs-555 remote.

If anyone can help it would be much appriciated. I would like to use this feature since it's already installed in the truck!

I do not have a manual for it, so I'm not entirely sure what to do.

Thanks,

I don't recall any lights going on when I open the hood, but I will give it a try tonight.

After reading these instructions, I'm not sure which options I should be selecting. For the cylinder selection. Do I choose 1 cylinder low, or 8 cylinder?

I went through the instructions. The lights blinked after each step, but after the last step, nothing happend. Should it do something at the end? It still does the non stop cranking.

  • Had you physical check the tach connection ?
  • Check the tach with a dmm with the engine running ?
  • Make sure Check the fuses at the module ?
  • Any power at ignition 1 & 2 when remote started ?
  • If all the above are good, then try do a take over test

i.e. with the engine running, press the start button wait till the dash light flashes back at you, then remove key & see if the truck would keep running. If it wouldn't you might have a PASSLOCK problem

I have checked the physical connction, and from what I can tell, it's hooked up correctly.

I can start the truck and press the remote starter button and take the key out.

I will check the tach with a meter, what setting should it be on, and what should the reading be?

I took the module out, and there are no fuses in it.

On a side note, I disconnected the tach wire to see if it made any diffrence, and it does the same thing.

hmmm....Now what can it be ? You had tach signal but could be NOT properly set. The take over test proved it. May be change the cylinder setting higher or lower. At the moment it could be over cranked. I m not sure which way it should go. only way to find out is to try I guess.

I guess that's where the other problem comes in. When I went through the 9 step programming, nothing changes. I tried the 8 cyl and the low setting. I did notice that it will accept settings up to 11 steps. Are there instructions for a 11 step unit?

are you sure this is 270ic ?   It could be a 290ic ( it comes with a two button remote)

use this for reference the last 4 steps are for cylinder selection

The unit looks like the picture on the 310 wiring instructions.

I tried the ones you linked, I tried the 310, and the 290. None seem to make any difference.

thats what i love about DEI units... start car, press a button, LED comes on, Tach learned, DONE!

can you program the unit to voltage sense just to try and eliminate a tach issue (sure sounds like a tach issue)
