Hi folks!.
Just wonderin'. I have a MK3 GTI 16v. I charged the battery about 3 weeks ago and set the alarm. all was fine. The alarm stayed activated until the 4th of Feb. I have been working on charging the battery every night since. Along the way there was all sorts going on with the alarm/hazard warning lights.
Now I have a solid green light in the battery. I set the alarm. having repeated the process a few times the alarm eventually stayed active for 3 minutes.
then it went off. I settled for locking the car on the key + left it. what could be wrong?. Appreciating all assistance

Is this a problem with the alarm battery or the car battery, you're not being very specific, also what green light? What make of alarm. If it's the car battery have you tested it?

i had a problem with the c/l in the beginning. that turned out to be a vacum connection @ the drivers door hinge. i managed to sort that out and the c/l worked fine. then i tried to activate the remote c/l + alarm one day after a run.in november. it worked fine + stated active.i put the car battery on charge 12/12/09. the remote c/l + alarm continued to work fine. i charged the car battery again 1/13/10. the remote c/l + alarm continued to stay active until Feb 2nd. the green lite i refer to is in the car battery. it is a vw alarm it think. i wil get a battery tester 2moro anyway.

in fact the remote c/+ alarm has been functioning fine since Nov 4th last.

my actual problem is the alarm will not stay active. just thought, would  a noisy c/l pump b the cause.

Meaning what? It turns off? C/L pump has nothing on it that well affect your alarm. Your comments are so vague.

Meaning that normally when one presses the button on the remote, the doors are locked & the alarm activates. in my case the doors get locked & the alarm tries to activate but after a few minutes something happens and causes the alarm to sound. i would like to know what is causing the alarm to go off!!.i am trying to be as informative as i can.

OK so you could have saved a lot of time by simply stating that the unit false alarms after a few minutes! Have you got ultrasonic sensors on your "A" pillars? (front door edge, sides of windscreen). If so it's not a factory unit. It's going to be either bad U/S sensors ..a Laserline speciality or a bad door, hood (bonnet, or tailgate switch. Up to you to find which one.

Thanks. no i do not have any sensors in the car. are you talking about the switches which are responsible for activating the interior light or specific alarm contact switches?.

Yes on doors and hatch, alarm specific on bonnet, if no ultrasonic, open a window, turn on alarm, wait 1 minute then poke your head and shoulders into the car. That will tell us if you have ultrasonic/proximity detectors. Personally, if I was keeping the car I'd rip it all out and start again.

Hi. Well i left the car battery on charge 4 3 hours. the tester showed it to be fully charged. i think the door solenoid may be bogey.

Which might give problems locking the vehicle by remote control but that won't open the door which is what will trigger your alarm.
