Hi guys. A little while back I asked for some guidance through a remote starter installation on my 1998 Mercury Sable. The install went alright, and the system worked fine. The only problem was the DEI 555f module I was using to bypass the PATS module had very little range, and the only spot it would work was strapped to the ignition switch outside of the body panel. As luck would have it, while tweaking the installation, I broke the 555f module. Waste of ten bucks, but it gave me a reason to buy a better option. Anyway, I bought a DEI 1100f direct bypass to replace it. I'm now familiar with how to locate the wires I need, but when I went to install it, I found that the wires were entirely different colors than my ShopKey wiring diagram said they would be. I didn't want to do any splicing before consulting you guys. Does anyone have experience bypassing the PATS module on similar vehicles? If someone could point out the color wires I'm looking for and where to find them, that would be awesome. Thanks.

DEI 555f Installation Guide

I have access to ShopKey if someone is interested in looking at a vehicle specific wiring diagram. I think I only need the TX and RX wires, as long as i understand it correctly and "ground when running" goes to the ground output from the remote start module upon a start trigger. Is that right? Thanks.

Ground when running from bypass will go to ground ouput of remote start during start only OR sometimes on DEI units/compustar it is called Staus Output. This wire is often blue or blue/white in colour.

at the ignition/transponder ring, you will find a 4 pin plug. If you cannot find this wire, look for a small wire loom in grey or black tape heading away from the transponder ring, this will lead into a female connector, and change colours at the male end. sometimes you can find this towards the right of the steering collumn, towards the knee kick area.

Pin 1 - ground (BLACK / YELLOW)
Pin 2 - ignition (RED / yellow)
Pin 3 - RX (grey/orange)
Pin 4 - TX (WHITE/ light green)

good luck

Ford/Mercury likes to confuse things sometimes.

The information for a 1998 Sable from iDatalink is as follows:

Pin 4     TX    BROWN / Orange

Pin 3    RX    RED / Black

Here is a link for their WEB site: https://www.idatalink.com/helpdesk/  ( They actually make the 1100f for DEI.)

Go there and look up your car and review the install guide for ADS TB module with ADS TB FM firmware.  It will give you a diagram of the cars connector with wire colors.

Be prepared for anything.  If it doesn't program, try switching the TX/RX connections.  It won't hurt anything, just do the factory reset and Standard mode selection in between programming attempts.
