The install manual says to connect ground on the DEI 1701G to a "clean, paint free metal sheet location using a factory bolt that DOES NOT have any vehicle component grounds attached to it". Would it be ok to connect this wire to the chassis ground wire going into the OBDII connector?

i have used the 12v, ign and ground at the obd2 plug before without problems. you should be good to go. ------------- Ted

Normally i would say ok as i have used it for stuff, but the 1701 is a POS and should really have a chassis ground to metal like they state...

I've heard the 1701G is pretty crappy from the forums, but I'm just interested in the OEM remote start function.. think it'll be good enough for that with OBD2 chassis ground? Thanks!

I haven't used a 1701G, but I've connected many other bypass modules using power and ground from the OBDII, and it's worked fine for me.
The only other thing to keep in mind is that on most GM cars, the OBDII's constant-power wire shares the fuse with the cigarette lighter.
If you get your constant at the OBDII, the product will stop working as soon as someone plugs in a defective cell phone charger and blows the lighter fuse.

Remember the 457G? It had issues working correctly that DEI attributed to not getting a great ground at chassis metal. It caused a lot of issues for us in Trailblazers. We had to go back on a few and reground them and this sticks in my head every time i here of ground on a DEI bypass of any kind... ------------- Mike M2
