hi all-  I'm installing a very basic Bulldog remote starter (rs82) which is a start and stop only model.  I'm using an older model DEI 556x Toyota/Lexus bypass module.  The r.s. does indeed start the car, and the bypass seems to have grabbed the code.  The problem I have is with the steering wheel which I believe is related to the keysense wiring..  when the car is remote started, the steering wheel stays in it's at-rest position, even when inserting the key into the already running ignition...  I can't figure out what I've missed, as I've double checked my wiring and followed the wiring schematics.  any and all help will be appreciated-

thanks, Chris

what do you mean by it stays at the rest position?

Do you have keysense hooked up?

You'll probably need to connect a ground-when-runnning from the remote starter to the car's keysense wire.

That will make the steering wheel already move into position when you hit the remote start....hopefully it won't go down so low you have trouble getting into the car.

i did this car a few weeks back.

I had to hook up the keysense from the bypass, but thats about it. didnt have a problem with the steering wheel lowering.

yeah, Chris and Ted, I do have the keysense hooked to the 555x bypass (in this case, the green from the module taps into the car's yellow keysense wire).  And it seems that the rs82 doesn't have a continuous ground output- only the momentary FASD and bypass wires...  so that's why I'm wondering what I may be missing, or if it's an inherent issue because of my two choice of modules..?  thanks again-

it could be called (ground when running, status out, status, negative outout from the unit.

It appears that the Bulldog RS82 does not have a true GWR output.  Where do you have the 555U's Blue remote status input wire attached?

It looks like they suggest attaching the 55U's status input wire to the White wire going from the RS82 to the relay pack...

Another possibility is to create a GWR signal from the RS82's IGN output.

thanks.  kreg, the bypass module is the 555x which is made to grab the Lexus code at the key cylinder and then repeat it from then on out...  on the rs82p the bypass wire is yellow and black, and the lead from the 555x is blue- the other wires on the bypass module get tapped into the keysense, and then tied in between the clock wire, and data wire- items I'm just not familiar with because I haven't done a Lexus (Toyota) before... but all are hooked up as the schematics show, so I'm wondering why I haven't seen this issue with other folks out there..  ?

Thanks for the update.  I was looking at the diagram for the RS82/RS85, not the RS82p.  posted_image

The thin Yellow/Black wire looks to be a GWR signal.

Can't help  with the 555u module.  I usually use iDatalink products.  Sounds like a keysense issue, though.  You might try running the RS82p's GWR wire to both the 555u and the cars keysense wire with diode isoloation ( and disconnect the 555u's keysense ) like Chris suggested.

I did try the keysense wire hooked to the remote starter's temporary output wire for the bypass (as I understand, that yellow/black is only active for the second or so that it actually takes for the car to crank) and the keysense needs a ground for about 5-8 seconds to run the steering wheel out to where it needs to be (and actually for the whole time the car is running)  My main question would be why does the 555x tap into the keysense wire? - it doesn't seem to be doing what we'd imaging it should.. I feel like a spazz.. ha.

on some cars, the keysense is used to shut off the bypass as a key is placed into the barrel.

some cars will go crazy if 2 keys are present.
