I'm thinking of a car alarm for my restored 1965 chevy chevelle SS. The alarm I have in mind is either the Viper 350 plus or Prestige APS25N. Simple car alarm with starter disable.  My car does not have keyless entry but does have dome light triggers in the door jams. I do have wiring diagrams for the factory wiring.

Which car alarm would be simple but most effective in this car?

What if any problems should I watch out for?

And what are your opinons on those self contained car alarms with siren and sensor in one 2 wire unit?

both brands are good. i had many bad experiances with dei so i say prestige. this is just my encounter, but some use dei products (viper) and have no problems.

the alarm should be straight forward to install. if you got 3-5 hours to spare, you whould be fine.

the self contained alarms will never be effective as one with a shock sensor, door triggers, siren, etc.
