I don't know if I'm goofy but I can't remember how to do this. I set up my Sprinter 4 years ago this way. Now I have a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup. It was broken in 2 weeks ago so I decided to install an alarm. That went ok but I am trying to tie the power door locks to the alarm. There is no remote for the truck so I am trying to wire it to the alarm. I have 2 relays. One for lock the other for unlock. I am using the pulse from the alarm to lock & unlock. Not working. I tie the pulse from the alarm to the coil on each relay & run 12V through the normally open contacts. The 12v through that contact pulses to the door lock/unlock. Not working. What did I miss?

you need 2 relays and 2 resistors 820 ohm - lock 330 ohm - unlock set up relay like so, just make one as lock or unlock 85 - negative output from alarm 86 - constant 12v 87 - chassis ground 30 - lock or unlock wire with proper resistor inline. ------------- Ted

Thanks I'll try that tomorrow. I am an electrician for 28 years & we thought that the relays were as follows:
85 coil
86 coil
30 common
87a normally open
87 normally closed

Yes I see I did a boo boo. Why the difference in resistance on the lock & unlock lines? Thanks

dont wanna cause any confusion but a 96 ram has 5wire locks in any info i have. that would mean wire youre relays as follows: cut each of the lock - ORANGE / purple unlock - pink/purple pins 85 & 87 - +12 volts pin 86 - lock or unlock (-) output from the alarm pin 87a - switch side of the lock/unlock wire pin 30 - motor side of the lock/unlock wire

blanx could be right as well. but since its a canadian model truck, i have done one and it was multiplexed (using resistors) to the OP, the differance in resistance controls the voltage read by the computer. the one wire systems aka multiplex. ------------- Ted

Just to add to the general level of ignorance, I was doing a lot of Cherokees up to 95 and they had a pos. trigger, the relays were in the under dash relay module, at least that's where they were in the right hand drive version built by Steyr in Austria Doh

I hear what you say about multiplex. My Sprinter had a CANBUS system in it. This old '96 is straight analog. The only computer in it is the antilock brakes & TPS switch. It's a diesel so it's pretty simple.

Don't confuse multiplex with the CAN they are completely different beasts!
Actually the Sprinter only went CAN from about 07. I did an 06 last week with no references to any strange electrics

I had a 05 Sprinter since new & a I had to build a latching relay board to fool the driver door lock when the remote locked the Sprinter. That way if you tried to open the doors with the key the alarm would still go off & instead of unlocking the door & turning off the alarm. I still have a diagram for it if you need it. Got rid of the Sprinter in November. But I know the European Sprinter had different software in it than the North American ones.

Wired it toady & now it works seamlessly. Thanks to all.

did you use the resistor or 5wire the door locks?

Well after using it a couple of weeks I noticed today that if the door is open & I push the remote that the alarm arms. The door is open. No beep beep, hey the door is open. Yet if the doors are shut & I arm the alarm using the key to open the door does cause the alarm to go off. I am confused. If the opening of the door when armed sets the alarm off would the door wiring be correct? thanks
