Currently have a remote start on my suv and I need to temporarily disable the remote start. I lost my only set of keys and am having a locksmith come out to originate and program 2 keys for me and they stated that if I had a remote starter on the car to disable it. Can I just put my remote start in valet mode or turn the toggle switch off or do I need to disconnect the ground wire? Your help will greatly be appreicated. Thanks.
Dont just disconnect the ground wire for the remote start, that could cause problems. Or do you mean the Negative terminal on the battery? That would be ok, Just becareful reconnecting it, the vehicle may try to remote start then. There may be a hood pin switch connected to detect the hood open, and not remote start. Or the toggle switch inside the vehicle may disable the remote start. Switch it OFF.
if you can please post alarm model # that way we can see if the switch will disable remote start. otherwise most alarm systems have a "neutral safety" (-) negative input. If you disrupt this wire it will definitely disable the remote start.

Take it back to the installer and ask them where the NSS is located. If they didn't mount it where you can get to it have them move it for you.

disconnecting the ground wire from the unit and disconnecting the negative battery terminal under the hood are essentially the same thing.
No it's not, it's not even close.
Many alarm systems and remote starts will still work if you disconnect the ground - they pull ground references from other inputs. If you are going to disconnect something from the remote start disconnect the main harness on the unit.
