Subject: add new key to car with remote starter

Hello -

I have a 2005 Acura TL that I had a remote starter installed. In order to install the remote starter, the dealer had to hide a valet key inside my car in order to bypass the key fob. Now I was looking to get a switchblade key. In order to use this key, I am required to have all my keys reprogrammed at the same time (including the hidden key). Is there a way that I can bypass this step by removing the key fob chip from my new key (which is accessible) that way when I start the car with the new key it just finds the valet key?

Sorry about the confusing setup but this looks like the best forum to find my solution.

Thanks!

It will not " find" the valet key. Someone else on here will know for sure but I think the dealer should be able to add another key without having all of the keys present.

Why not thought? Since the remote start works, that finds the valet key. I would be removing the chip from the new key so wouldnt that mimic the process?

acura or honda can add a key to the system without having all keys present. you just need one master key on hand and the new key.

there is a way to just use the key and have the transponder bypassed witht he valet, but there is LOTS of work and rewiring to be done. i would just get the key programmed, sure it costs abit but it saves you time.

The car is not "finding" the valet key. Sorry I didn't give you the answer that you were looking for. Good luck.

Your car "finds" the hidden valet key during the remote start process because the remote start turns on the hidden key and thru a wire loop presents it to the cars reciever at the ignition switch.  The hidden key is only turned on during the remote start process.  It is off at all other times to maintain your cars normal immobilizer security.

exactly, and thats why if you want just a normal blank key to work, alot of rewiring will need to be redone, HOWEVER, now you compromise the factory immobilizer.

It involves removing the by-pass box, removing the RFI chip from that key, acrylic glueing the chip to the ignition switch antenna ring in a position where the (chip-less) key still works and throwing away the bypass box that you've paid for.
Also the chips are fragile, I managed to drill through one on Saturday, a non original key and the owner of the car also a Honda funnily enough didn't have a spare key! My cost over $200. You will also have the factory transponder immobiliser incapacitated by using this method so is it worth it?
