I am trying to install a viper 571xv remote start into a 1989 toyota pickup.   I am trying to find all the wires that are a must to avtivate the remote start.  The truck is  all manual from the door locks to the windows.   It is also a five speed manual trans as well.   what my main concern is what wires are needed from the truck and what wires are needed to the brain.   I have all the large current wires attached to the satilite relay but from there to the brain is where im messed at

.any help will HELP    thanks

is the  571 a manual trans compatible remote start?  does it have a shutdown sequence?

With everything attached to the satellite relay, the ribbon cable just plugs into the brain.

From the brain to the truck you'll need at the least:

+12V
Ground
Brake switch
Neutral safety switch (your truck doesn't have one but this wire has to be hooked up for the remote start to work)
tachometer (you can try voltage check instead if you prefer)

Optional:

Parking light
horn honk
remote start activation (wires up to a button to make valet-takeover easy as pushing a button in the truck)
dome light supervision (not very useful with manual locks)
hood pin switch (I list it as optional because you R/S isn't even safe for manual trans so safety is out the window anyway)

Your R/S doesn't have a manual tran mode so use care to ensure you don't leave the truck in gear and attempt to use the remote start. If you can try to wire the neutral safety switch wire to an actual neutral safety switch of some sort. What I used to do was use a regular toggle switch that would activate the neutral safety switch wire and turn it off everytime I got in the car and turn it on only after I shut the car off and left it in neutral. Takes some thought and will power to use that method and remain safe but it can work if you stick to it.

Without a manual transmission adapter this whole post is moot.

Hey Catback that helps alot thanks.   I do have the neutral safety  switch but it isnt hooked up because i wasnt sure about it and where to hook it up.  I also dont have the break switch hooked up yet for the same reason.

I do however have the 12v constant, ignition,Ignition 2,Tach, acsessory, horn, and ground all hooked up and plugged into the satilile relay.  I then have the ribbon wire plugged into it running to the brain.  i have power to the brain and the led light does turn on and off with the truck but i still am missing what must be the break wire and neutral safety If you can think of ANYTHING i must have to just run the remote start let me know that is all i really want for this truck.

Just the brake and neutral safety switch are left for the remote start. Personally I would also hook up the parking lights just so I can tell from afar if the remote start is running.

The brake switch hooks up to the switch on the brake pedal that turns on your brake lights. The wire will show +12v when the pedal is pressed.

The neutral safety switch wire can be connected to one side of toggle switch that you have, the other side would be connected to ground. When the toggle switch is on and the r/s brain sees ground on that wire, remote start is enabled. If it doesn't see ground you won't be able to remote start.

Hey Catback

Thanks so much for all the info Its helped alot.  I need one more thing I think and should be done here. Let me run it by you.

Ight what I got so far is the 12V connection hooked up got both ignitions accsessory, horn, parking lights, got the neutral switch hooken in and grounded I also have the ground wire from the remote start wire grounded too.  what i am having trouble with is where to find the tach wire I thought i had it connected but I must not because when i try to teach the brain the tach learning im not getting any response. I know i have all the other wires connected right but if you wouldnt mine running over what you think should be done I will listen.   any help is good help

thanks

hey catback

Sorry to bug but you have been the biggest help so far.   anyway I found the tach wire now my only prob is I can only get the truck to start when i hold in the clutch.  It will try to fire up but unless i hold the clutch in the truck wont turn over.    how do i bypass the clutch so the truck thinks its on

thanks

like howie said you need a manual transmission module. DEI used to make a 689M that you can probably get on ebay for about $20. if you try to finish this job without this module your truck will crank with remote start whether in gear or not and in gear can cause the car to move and possible start and drive itself away.
