What is a decent priced alarm system that people have had good luck with and can get good support for. I bought a carvox and its pretty much trash. I'm looking for one thats 2 way, remote start, aux channels for my window module, and with lcd remotes. Alot of people seem to be happy with the Viper's. Python has nice ones too but i need some input. Thanks

DEI (Directed Electronics Incorporated) is the best company ive seen and used the last 5 years for installers and customers, great tech support as well, they make a wide range systems which include Viper,Python, Clifford and some more affordable lines like Valet and Avital,although you still might spend more it is worth it.

an alarm is only as good as the install itself.
i prefer the compustar line over anything. remeber, this is my opinion, but i have used autopage and dei stuff. i had my back luck with dei so no more. ------------- Ted

All you guys have to admit that DEI alarms, although a great and solid alarm, is way overpriced-- on both wholesale and retail levels. I would always recommend them, however, there is NO customer support whatsoever for DO-IT-YOURSELFERS. I have been installing alarms for 17+ years now and I am now partial to AUTOPAGE and AUDIOVOX. There price points are low, there is nothing a Viper does that an Autopage cant.
Also, you dont have to be forced into big money buy-ins, meeting quarterly qoutas, and supporting there auxiliary lines of product.
Viper--- definately not for a DIY. Technically they public isnt even allowed to purchase a Viper (to go)
It is only warranteed if installed by an AUTHORIZED DEALER

autopage is pricy in canada unfortunatly. the only well prices system here are the POS china stuff, or compustar lol.

I purchased a refurbished viper 690xv..the antenna range and remote have never given me trouble. Although it does not have too many add on options.. using relays and diodes I have been able to make this work for me. It does have an aux input and you can always add a channel expander or remote start module if you want. If you want something real basic, the viper 350hv is now two way if you buy that model. You can also look at the viper 5002 alarm which is an upgrade of the 690xv, however after installing a few of these, the antenna range is not as great with this system.

To the first poster, the phrases "decent price " and "people have had good luck with " just don't go together. ALL the well known brands are good, BUT they are NOT for DIY install.
Ref Tedmond's comments, I feel like defending DEI for once. I've rarely over the years had any problems with Clifford products, now G5 + Intellistart but yesterday I installed a Viper + Valet 621?t. The WHITE/ blue from the alarm part (aux Chan 3) has a button combi I can't get my fingers on and it failed to output, so I had to reroute chan 2 to operated the R/S. Definately not for a DIY person, you have to have the experience to know exactly what's going on and to think through any problems and test them out.
