Hi,
I am helping my son with an '89 Volvo 760 turbo that has a Viper 550 ESP installed. The installation is unfortunately not the nicest I have seen, but it appears to work, kind of...
Here is the problem: When you turn on the turn signal (either way) both sides blinks (just like your hazards), but in the rear, the backup lights blink. Just as they do if you arm/disarm the system.
I also noted that the indicator light for the foglight on the dash is on all the time (when the ignition switch is on). Seams to me as some kind of ground issue?
I am contiplating simply removing the Viper system, but it would be nice to use it if it works.
My question is: How do I trouble shoot this? I downloaded the installation guide, so I have some documentation of how it may have been installed. My assumption is that the system worked at one point in time...
Thanks for any assistance.
Rolf
The system asked me to post system information.
The only other numbers I found on the system is s/n? V904021022, I don't know if that makes it a 90?

a basic 550esp install should not be hooked to the turn signal or backup lights at all. it should be tied into the parking lights.
now if someone tried to modify the basic light flashng into a more "custom" version ... it could be alarm related.
i think it might be an actual car wiring problem and not an alarm problem.
if your kid has any buddies that have a few alarms under their belt, they should be able to see if there are any relays tied to lights other than parking.

If your system moves you physically and not emotionally, you have wasted your money.
The parking light output on that alarm is a white wire that should have an inline fuse in it. Find the white wire and pull the fuse out and see if any of the issues go away. If that doesn't change anything then unplug the main harness on the 550 and see if that changes anything.
If nothing changes then there isn't a problem with the alarm. If something does change then you at least know the alarm is a part of the problem.

Use 1N5404 diodes in line and split the light out put to each side, in fact since this is a Swedish (European) made car you should split the white to the left and right indicators. I'll come back if I can find the colours.
Can't find it on either Directechs Euro or Autodata so do this. Join the 2 diodes as above, bands away from alarm, cut the white lead and with a DMM (you can get away with a bulb tester for this) open steering column cowling or find loom from steering column OR pop out hazard switch. With ignition ON move stalk to left and then right. With it clicking away ONE wire each time will flash on and off. These will now connect to each end of the diodes and solve the problems. If that doesn't those problems might be unrelated.
