hey everyone new to this forum been surfing around and you guys got lots of info on here but im having this issue with this Viper 5002 install. here is what i got. i have a 71 datsun 510 and i installed door act. in both pass and drivers door and one for the trunk pop. well everything works perfect actuators open and close but no siren or chirp. i have a bitwriter so i have everything set on. what i have noticed is when i take the main ground off. The siren sounds but not at full volume but when i put the ground back on the siren stops but wont work when trying to arm. does anyone have a clue on what i have done wrong. thx in advance for your help!!

Assuming the siren is correctly wired, i.e. brown from Viper to red on siren and black from siren to ground, check your voltage across the red and black wires on the Viper. It appears that you have a bad ground. On a car of this age I would run power and ground to the battery, I wouldn't trust any other ground or power points.

Does the siren work when the alarm is set off?  I only heard mention of the arm and disarm chirps.

Good point, might be programmed for silent arming but look at the vehicle's age, you will see where I'. going here.

With howie on this one! Unless he altered the programming, that unit has the confirmation chirps programmed on from factory!

well i relocated the battery to the trunk so i have 1/0 cable for both pos and neg. when checking the voltage on the brown wire i dont get anything. when looking at the bitwriter all the siren and chirp functions are on.

How do you test the voltage on the wire? Use the panic and trigger the system then measure the voltage on the wire you should get around 12 or so if you get no reading you have a defective siren output!

ok well i hope i did this right when i tested the brown wire while the alarm was going off. the voltage was 2.56ma. did i test it the right way. if i tested it at DCV it was all over the place but got some readings at 114. i think

If you connect the siren directly to the battery, does it make a sound?    Or have you ever heard a sound coming out of that particular siren?

yes when you hook it up to 12v it works perfect. when i take the ground off i hear the siren go off but at half volume. but when i put it back the siren goes off. weird

When you disconnect the alarm's ground wire, the alarm brain is looking for ground, it finds ground through your siren wire.  This is normal.  When you reattach the ground wire, the siren sounds, this too is normal.

Using the bitwriter, turn the arm and disarm chirps off, then turn them back on.

quick question is the siren wire "brown" is suppose to have 12v constant or only when the siren is going off. Because it seems like it has constant 12v even if the siren isnt going off. thx in advance
