Hi, Im new here my name is Brad.

Ive done some searching on this topic. First of all we have two vehicles in need of a tach wire. My 00' Crown Victoria and my brother's 97' P71 Crown Victoria.

I'm aware that I can tap into the PCM but space is a bit limited and I don't think i can get in there with my soldering iron. But my question is....can I tap into the uncommon wire on the fuel injector.

Wiring diagrams suggest this for the 2003-up models....but I was curious if I could do it on the 2000 model an the 1997 model.

I know I could use the coil on the 1997 model but I would have to extend the wires...I'd rather use the injectors on both cars. Is it possible.

You should be able to do that with no issues. Try it out and if you have problems with it use a different tach source.

All went well :) Starts with no problem. Programmed on the first try and no overcrank or undercrank.

Now its time to tackle the malibu....that normally takes 3 seconds to start. Theres no way tachless would work for this car.

Ive tried everything to fix the hard starting issue. New starter new flywheel. Car runs perfect so i gave up lol :)

depending on the year of the malibu. some use mux or multiplexed systems, and it will never grind or fail a start.

If i remember correctly the rule of thumb is always Ford go to a fuel injector, Chrysler go to a coil.  Ive had issues before with Ford cars not cold starting in the winter very well with a coil tapped in so fuel injector was the best way to go.
