I will try to install this soon, and wonder if anyone out there has any tips. Wire locations, best tap in points, etc. I want to use this mainly for remote start, trunk release, starter kill, car finder, and keyless entry. ...maybe some flashing colored grill lights and a voice for the car finder... General comments on this Audiovox system welcome.

PS The Audiovox website shows the same install manual for both the APS 995 and APS 995a..what's the difference?

Thanks

I do Camrys all the time, and I install Audiovox products too. I think I've found just about every shortcut there is for the Camry---it's a fairly easy car. Here's a link to a post I made a while back, with lots of information:

I have to say, this Audiovox stuff is very reliable, fairly inexpensive, and about the most installer-friendly I've found. I'm very happy with it.

As far as just what an APS-995A is, I don't know, but I'll tell you what I do know.

The APS-995 is an older model; it has a somewhat cheesy two-way remote.

The APS-996 is the current model, which I have in my car, and the two-way remote looks nice and has icons on the buttons.

The APS-995C is only sold at Circuit City. It has the new-style remote, and it also uses DEI (Viper) wiring colors, instead of Audiovox colors.

Also, I notice that the APS-995 has the same type of antenna as all the other Audiovox remote starts, but my APS-996 has a special looking one. Maybe they're using a whole different technology for the two-way part of it.

So, even though I'm not sure what a 995A is, there are your guidelines. Look at an eBay auction for a 996, and see if that remote looks different from yours.

Thanks for the link to your post listing wire locations and special notes, bravo! posted_image

Glad to hear the good things about Audiovox stuff, especially the installer-friendly part. I got the 995a on ebay for the price of an APS 750 ($80). I see what you mean about cheezy looking 2way remote from Audiovox website image (haven't received my 995a yet) but since I get engine start confirmation, I bit. posted_image

This car does not have electric trunk release, so i plan to install an aftermarket one.

BTW I'm putting on a trunk spoiler and would like to remove the third stop light on the rear deck. Do you know how that's attached? Looks kind of flimsy.

Thanks again for the valuable info.
