I have a 2003 Ford Escape that I'm going to put a 2-way remote start system on and I was told that I need a DEI 555S bypass module. Is this correct? Is that the right model if I do in fact need one? When I looked that part number up it said it was for only a 2001 Ford Escape. Does it work on both? Any advice helps! Thanks.

Yes, the 555SW will work.  However there are better ( more reliable ) bypass units available.  With the 555SW, placement of the transponder "pill" is critical.  Some trial and error is involved and the the "pill" should be mounted in position very securely.   Additionally, if you live in an area where it gets cold, the 555SW type bypass units can be affected by the cold and work intermittantly.

I would recommend something like a PKFM or PKALL.  They connect directly to the cars wiring and are very reliable.  Here is a link to DEI's bypass modules: https://www.xpresskit.com/VehicleCompatibility.aspx?p=-1&year=2003&make=Ford&model=Escape&ps=1&s=0   There are units available from Fortin ( https://ifar.ca/en/vehicles/ford/escape/2003/ ) and iDatalink  ( https://www.idatalink.com/helpdesk/ ) that are very good also...

Either way you go, you will need two working, non-clone, keys to program the bypass to the car.

Good luck

I agree, the 555sw is a real POS and unreliable. Use a hardwire type bypass, like this

I have used the Fortin brand with very good results.
