I am preparing to install door locks on our 1990 4dr Honda accord DX, in preparation for an alarm/keyless install. Since there are no lock motors or electric windows, the manufacturer never installed a wire harness gasket between the b pillar and rear doors. There is a rubber plug at the pillar and another in the door. Is this gasket an item available aftermarket, or must I order it from Honda? Thanks. Steve

Hey Steve, go to an auto recycler for an OEM rubber boot for the rear doors. This is the best way to make it look OEM and clean while keeping the costs down and installation time low.

Jeff, thanks for the suggestion, but some bad news from the dealer. Turns out that part is molded onto the wiring harness - and is only available from the dealer that way. I imagine I won't be able to remove it from the harness at the junkyard, either. I'm planning to fabricate something, using the existing hole plugs at the ends. I was going to use heat-shrink, but that ended up way too stiff. I may next try rubberizing some soft nylon sheathing - I'll post the results, or whatever I come up with. worst case, I could probably just tape-wrap the wires, pass them through holes poked in the plugs, then still seal with liquid rubber. I personally came across that problem as I was working with the Viper 550ESP, that I was installing on my girlfriends 93 Civic. I personally drilled holes into the factory plugs and I used wire loom to cover the wires and electrical taped around it to ensure that water would not collect inside the loom.
Figured that I would post my solution

When we do work like that (power windows door locks etc.) we tape & heat shrink all the wires that are going to go into the door(s) before we fish them in. The heat shrink ensures that no water is going to interfere with anything, and stops the tape from unwinding over time. We then finish off with black split loom.
