We have had up to 5 units go bad in a single vehicle in a 1 year time period.  We have had them last a few years before failing, but they do seem to fail.  Has anybody else been having trouble with this piece?  Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening?

All of the uniits that I have been made aware of are on trucks and suburban/tahoe.  Is this piece used on their cars as well?

Give me at least a little bit of credit Howie.  I know it is a DataBus module.  I have had to remove some door panel electronics and hardwire 3 wires to the actual lock and unlock switches.  I have only had to do it on trucks and suv bodies.  I know that they have databus in their cars as well.  I have just not heard of them having any problems with the Impala and Monte Carlo.  I was just wondering if maybe the db-dlm module was only used on the truck/suv bodies.

You are of the few who's knowledge and experience I would never argue with. I honestly couldn't think what it was but reading your first post and the fact that they all failed in a single vehicle, could it be that vehicle?

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.

It is not a single vehicle.  We did put 5 units on one vehicle within the first year.  The vehicle I worked on yesterday has been on there for a few years. There have been others that have failed.  I am not even sure who manufactures the piece.  I think it is an Omega branded device.  It is a DataBus-Door Lock Module I think they have to be programmed for different vehicles.  I figured some of our stateside alarm guys would be able to tell me if they had a trick to prevent the failures.
