I am getting ready to install a 455t and Viper 5301 in my wife's 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited.

What wire (VEHICLE'S DOOR TRIGGER) are they referencing here?

Is it this one:
Door Trigger Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Door Trigger Negative Wire Location: In Drivers Kick Panel

Why does it say "CUT"?
Do they only want me to connect the relay to one side of the wire?
Which side?

Thanks,
LittleG

The paragraph at the top of the page pretty much explains it all... but here goes....

When you disarm the factory alarm, the dome light comes on, the viper alarm will think that the door was opened and the alarm will trigger.    Using this relay configuration, you will interrupt the door trigger to the alarm .  Yes, the yellow wire you listed, will run thru the relay to the viper alarm,

I know I didnt explain it so good.

So one side of the yellow wire will connect to #30 on the relay

And the other side of the yellow wire will connect to #87a on the relay with the door trigger input from the Viper 5301?

It's like there is a piece of wire missing in the picture?
So when I cut the yellow wire, which side goes to #30 and which side goes to #87a?

And the side of #87a am I soldering the yellow wire to the input of the alarm wire?

I don't know why this is confusing me so much?

Thanks,
LittleG

The door trigger - input wire from the alarm should connect to pin 87a on the relay . You dont need to actually cut the vehicles factory security systems yellow door trigger wire , just strip a bit of the insulation from it , wrap a wire running from pin 30 on the relay around the wire & solder .

Pin 85 goes to the black with white stripe from the 455t . +12v constant fused to pin 86 .

It just interupts the dei alarms door trigger wire when the system is remote started or disarmed.

The reason it says CUT is to illustrate the alarm - door trigger connects thru a relay before connecting to the factory alarms door trigger wire .

I don't understand why that part is necessary, when you are not installing a dei security system.  What you have is a 2 way keyless and r/s.  Unless, you already have a security system and are adding to it.

One more question.

Do I need to use a 30 AMP RELAY on the Ignition wires too?

Looking at the instruction manual of the Viper 5301,
the diagram for the H3 8-pin connect implies that I need to use one.

No relays for the ignition wires are needed, red,RED / white, and RED / black go to your pink/black wire and will power the pink, pink/white, orange, and violet wires of the heavy gauge harness.

Do I use the negative (-) Door trigger input from the Alarm or the positive (+)?

I used the negative door trigger from the alarm.
However I can't find the yellow wire in my Jeep.
It is supposed to be in the harness behind the kick panel that goes through the body to the drivers door.

There is a solid yellow wire on the courtesy light?

I hooked the battery back up followed the setup instruction, but nothing works with the new remote, the doors do not lock or unlock, the engine doesn't start.

It still does start with the key and the old remote Jeep still works.

Any ideas?

Diagram

I got the Jeep to start with the Viper remote after I changes menu #3 from manual transmission to auto.

I still can't get the door locks to work?

Does anyone know why I don't have a yellow wire (Door trigger)?
Is the dome courtesy light wire the same?

Please check the diagram I made, it took me a couple hours!

Thanks,
LittleG

Have you got puddle lamps facing down at the lower edges (both sides) of the instrument panel? There are two wires to each, disconnect from bulb, one wire will be at 12volts+, use the other wire. That's the door trigger wire, goes to your green neg trigger door contact wire.
Have you learned tach?
Sorry I can't be of more help, I haven't really worked an alarm on these since the mid 90s.

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.

1.) When I ground the blue wire (still connected) nothing happens.
2.) When I unplug the harness (blue and green) from the Viper - the locks trigger.
3.) When I plug the harness back in - the locks trigger.
4.) When I ground the blue wire from the 455t (disconnected from Viper, but still soldered to the Viper harness) - the locks trigger.

I have done this several times with the same results.

What does it mean?

It seems that the DEI 455t is working correctly, but the Viper 5301 is not!

The Viper has three menus of options, could there be a setting that is wrong? Or is the brain of the Viper defective?
