I searched and found a few references to them, but nothing specific enough to help me choose-
Vehicle is a 2004 Nissan Frontier pickup. No OEM alarm, but OEM keyless entry. I have had a few alarms in it, a K9 that died, then a Scytek that died, and now a Python 702 that was less than stellar too.
I am tired of swapping parts, and tired of junky remotes. So I want to use one of these piggyback units that uses the OEM keyless fobs.
Features wise- NO starting or anything- I need something to tell me if someone hits my truck, or opens a door after breaking a window/opens the tonneau cover/opens the hood. Simple and sleek. An aux output to feed a trunk solenoid I plan to add to my tonneau cover is cool but not a deal breaker if it doesnt have one.
I have found the AutoMate AM1 and also a reference to an Audiovox piece that does the same stuff. They all seem VERY similar- I want to know, which piece will have the build quality- what have you guys put in and had good results with?
Thanks in advance for any and all help and insight,
Luke
Ugh cannot edit. Ignore the AUX output part thanks.
I install both the AM1 and the AVOX PRO9233N, both upgrade alarms. Both do the job fine, and the only real difference is the AVOX has the old fashion shock sensor that wireties under the dash and adjusts with a screwdriver while the AM1 has the shock built in and adjusts electronically. Until recently i prefered the AM1 but we just had a few come back that will false the shock even with it turned all the way down. Nice thing about the PRO9233N, it's been around forever and is rock solid dependable. Nothing wrong with adjusting the shock by hand...

I like things that have been around forever and have no issues,,, And the external sensor means if it did go bad, I could get another and swap it out...
Are there any similar units anyone suggests?
