Well I'm in too deep to stop now... lol.

I got the security system turned off and that's as far as I've gotten so far. :( The instructions I have (the installation manual, wire colors from here and the sheet that is specific for this truck) aren't doing me much good. I'm stuck at getting the doors to lock and unlock - haven't even tried the starter yet. Hopefully someone here can lend a hand.

The two wires out of the unit (blue and green) are +12v and ground and reverse polarity to lock and unlock. Here's what I have to go on:

Python Unit:
Blue: (+) lock (-) Unlock Output
Green: (-) lock (+) Unlock Output

Wiring from here:
Door Trigger: RED / black (-)
Door Lock: light GREEN/ red (-)
Door Unlock: brown (-)
Driver's Lock: blue (+)
Drivers Unlock: GREEN / WHITE (+)
Passenger Unlock blue/red (+)

From the "Xterra specific" instructions:
Power Lock: yellow
Power Unlock: yellow/red
Lock Motor: blue
Driver Unlock Motor: GREEN / WHITE
Passenger Unlock Motor: blue/red

Ideally I'd like for one press to unlock everything and one press to lock everything, but if all I can get is the driver's side... I guess I'd take it being 3.5 hours into the install...

I have one more 12 volt relay if I need it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well I thought I had it, driver's side lock GREEN / WHITE is +12 on unlock and - on lock and unlock is GREEN / WHITE - blue +12. The output of the module fits perfectly with that, reversing polarity for lock and unlock. Tried it, no dice; no more ideas...

Try this:

 Green Lock wire from Python to trucks' Yellow (-) Lock wire.

Blue UnLock wire from Python to trucks' Yellow/Red (-) UnLock wire.  Set the Python to double pulse on unlock.

These wires are found at the SECU.  This info from Bulldog Security: THE SECU (Security Electronic Control Unit) IS LOCATED ABOVE THE HOOD RELEASE IN THE DRIVERS KICK PANEL.THESE WIRES WILL ONLY METER WHEN TURNING KEY IN DOORLOCK CYLINDER.   Testing all wires with a DMM is a good idea.

I would also place a diode in these connections with the band towards the Python unit.

That should lock and unlock all doors with one button press.

You, sir, are a genius! It works great! Now... on to the starter... wish me luck! lol

Alright, moving along I'm to the point of testing the starter. It gives me an error that says neutral wire must be grounded. It IS grounded... I tried in a few different spots (including the same spot the whole system is grounded to. The unit is set to automatic mode, that was my first error I got, had it in manual by default.

On the upside, everything else seems to work.

Ok, never mind, I'm just an idiot and forgot to plug in the enable/disable toggle switch. You'd think that would be a separate error code...

Anyway, it plays it's happy little song on the remote and the unit is clicking away, but no cranking. It clicks probably 15 times in about 15 seconds presumably doing something, but it's not working.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

The purple starter wire is not getting any voltage - fuses are all good, truck starts with key still - no transponder IIRC (still won't remote start with key in ignition), 2000 xterra.

Have you connected all the heavy gauge reds to a proper 12 volt constant feed?

Yes. Or at least I believe so. The green wire for the ignition, it read 12v with the keys out. I also have it set to 'automatic' instead of 'manual' for the transmission and have the neutral and hood latch wires grounded for the time being. I have the two starter wires apparently, the main one is attached to the violet 'starter' wire and the second I've set the remote start to use a second output for 'starter 2' (I assume this is what it's for). The 'wait to start' wire is not grounded as per the manual since this is not a diesel.

The ever helpful manual has only two solutions for my problem, blown fuses and that 'wait to start' wire grounded.

Ok, I think I have a few things missing... I noticed all my fused large gauge wires are not connected... that can't be good. Here's my directions:

As it's wired right now it's:

Red (+12v for the unit - different harness) -> Green ignition wire
Pink/White -> GREEN/ YELLOW
Violet -> BLACK / YELLOW
Orange -> RED / Yellow
Pink -> BLACK/ White

There are 4 wires I haven't used (presumably because I don't know where to put them):
RED / White
Red
Pink/Black
RED / Black

Any chance someone can tell me what goes where? I'm realizing how stupid I am right now, but that doesn't make me any more clever. ;)

The Pink/Black is not used.  The others go to a suitable +12v constant source.

It's alive!

Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it. Otherwise I'd still be stuck on getting the door locks to work. lol

You guys are awesome!

Last question, I promise. :)

It's all working fine and the car is back together. There's one possible issue though, which I discovered after it was all back together. When it's remote started and I put the key in and turn it, the starter clicks real quickly (like 0.1 sec) going past the 'accessory' position. Is that normal?

I figure it's not the worst thing in the world, but for the time being I'm either going to turn off the truck with the remote on my way out to it or else I'll hit the brake to turn it off when I get in and then start it up again with the key. It doesn't click when using the key when the engine is off, fortunately.

So I guess I'm wondering if something is wired wrong or if that's just the way it is - at least on the Xterra.

Thanks again. I never could have done it without you guys!

Just wondering. Is the Python the same as the Viper 5301?

Can't find a install manual or a owners manual for this.

Thanks
