I'm fixing to install a Viper remote start alarm on a 06 Jetta with a standered transmission..  Someone told me that 1. it's not a easy car, and 2. that it will always have the check engine light on cause of the clutch bypass...   The question is, has anyone ever hear of the engine light comeing on after the install and is there a fix for it... Also what is the best bypass mode for that car..   Thanks in advance

Which Viper alarm/rs are you looking at? Most the the newer ones will work with standard transmissions, just got to do a sequence of things before getting out of the car so check engine light shouldnt be an issue. This isnt too easy of a car either. Lock wires are found in the door module inside the driver door so unless you pick up the xk01, xk09, or DLPK modules to do the locks for you, you're gonna be fishing wire through a PITA door boot. It calls for a TBX key with the loop for the transponder override, so you're gonna need to give up a key. So unless you have done numerous r/s with modules before, I wouldnt attempt this install.

PM Chris Luongo, I believe he wrote the definitive on MkV Golf/Jettas.
