Recently installed a Viper 5901 and it stops working after about fifteen minutes. Light on the transponder stops blinking, and every command sent via the remote gives error. Opening a door turns the system back on like magic, but the alarm does not go off, it just turns the system back on.

I thought it was the nuisance prevention, so I turned it off. Same thing. I decided had to be something on the door trigger wire, so I cut it thinking there was a problem there. Now system still falls asleep, and won't wake up at all. It's not a switched power line, because I can start the car by key, to get power running everywhere, and it still won't wake up. I'm sure if I put ground to the door trigger, it will wake up. Now thinking the 5901 brain has a problem. Any thoughts?

is the unit refurbished?
Other than asking you to check all the wiring to make sure the alarm is not loosing power, the brain is at fault.

With unit asleep, I removed the wire harness and metered 12.5 at four positive inputs and one ground. All meter good. It's a new unit.

I checked the feature menu, and do not see a keypad feature.

I'm not a Viper dealer, so their warranty tells me to jump in a lake.

read the owners manual... it tells you how to program keypad lock on and off on the keypad.....     to test for this hit f, unlock (function, then unlock)  this will unlock it for a minute or so

Are we having a sleeper circuit issue here?
What vehicle, year and model, where are ALL the power and ground supplies taken from?

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.
