hello gents,

Im having problems with the passlock on a 2001 chev malibu. I would like to bypass this either with the resistor method as i have found in other topics. Cut the yellow and spice into the orange black with the appropriate resistor.  Here is my question, this will totally disable the passlock ( i dont care for it, as the theft light is on and i dont want to dish out the bug bucks for the new clynder, and the car isnt worth much)  Will this method get rid of the light on the dash and will my ignition cylinder still go bad afterwards?

Also can i use a DEI 555 instead of the resistor to bypass the passlock . What im trying to do is find a cheap alternative instead of being towed to the dealer and have that ignition cylinder replaced. Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards,

Cordoba

Cheapest way to to bypass the system altogether.
Here is a link to the diagram on the bypass.

thank you ice,

but that will only work if you're using a remote starter  and you need to bypass the PASSLOCK to start.

also are PASSKEY and PASSLOCK the same? i thought they were different ?

Don't even use relays.

Tap any resistor value between the passlock reference wire and the Passlock wire, cut it off the keyswitch side of the passlock wire so only the resistor sits on the car side.

Start your car, it will fail, be patient

wait 10 minutes with ignition on, turn it off and start again, do it 3 times and the new value will be registered.

If you don't want to go through the three x 10 min. ignition ON to reprogram then ensure you use exactly the same resistor as the vehicle already had in the ignition switch and you're done.

If you fail on your first attempt, at least destroy all evidence you tried!
