My friend has an issue on his 2008 VW Passat Wagon remote starter that he had installed at a local stereo shop. The system remote starts the car as it should, however, every time he opens the door to get in the car after he has remote started it, the car shuts down. I haven't looked at the wiring yet as he is going to take it back to the stereo shop to see if they can/will fix it. I'm almost surprised that any installer would ask for payment for a remote start system install that performs in this way: It totally defeats the purpose. He still has to start the car normally after getting into it! If anyone has some ideas on where I should focus if & when I need to troubleshoot it, I would much appreciate it.
Thanks!

Also, if anyone has the wiring breakdown for this vehicle I would appreciate having it available. I didn't see it posted as available in the wiring diagram section.

Is this push button start ? I've done a few new Lincoln mks push button starts using the new ford starter system. And they shut down the car when ever you open any if the doors or trunk. Then you need to restart the car when you get in.

Bulldog Security has a wiring guide for your VW. Here is a link to their site : https://www.bulldogsecurity.com/bdnew/vehiclewiringdiagrams.asp

Installer probably installed the door trigger to the hoodpin or the brake wire to purposely shut the vehicle down so that the car doesn't see two keys at the same time. Not sure why he did this?

Thanks to everyone for the help thus far!
This car does have the push button start. Can anyone confirm a successful install on this vehicle without the shutdown problem when a door is opened?

im not sure on those cars but with the lincoln/ford push start just dont hook up the door trigger wires but you still need to hit the brake then manually start the car again so there really is no point in unhooking the door trigger
