I just got a Viper 650xv installed and have a couple of questions... First, to make changes to the programming do you HAVE to have one of their programming dodads? I forget how I installed mine years ago (back in '94 time frame) but I know I didn't have anything fancy to do it. Second, I forgot to ask for them to set it to turn on the dome light when I disarm the thing... Is that easy to change or does it require additional wiring? Third, I got it set with passive arming and told them NOT to have the locks lock passivly (only when I arm it manualy), but I foudn today that it does lock when it arms passively. Is this not possible, or did they just do it wrong? I also have the windwo roll up module for when I arm it passiveyl and activly if that matters... Thanks! Mick |

The programming doodad you mention is called a BitWriter, and no, you do not need to have it.
You can go through a sequence of steps involving opening the door, using the key, using the valet switch, and using the remote. You'll need the installation manual (not the owner's manual) to do this. If your installer didn't give you the installation manual, I believe you can download it at directed.com.
Domelight supervision will require an extra connection, and also will probably require one relay, depending on the type of car.
You can definitely get passing arming, but active locks. Yours was probably just programmed incorrectly by mistake.

Can't believe it was that easy! Can you believe the guy I had install this told me I had to leave the car with him to change this? It took me less time to read that section of the book, learn how to do it, and do it, than it took them to tell me what a pain it was to install the antenna and window module and how I'd need to bring it back to have it updated because he would have to dig the box out from under the dash in order to get the bitWriter connected. I mean it really did! They went on for five minutes on what a pain it was and was going to be, and I read it and changed it in like three. And that was including not doing it quick enough twice and having to restart!!! The worst part was I was actualy AT THE SHOP while they were telling me this. If I was on the phone or something and they told me to come in, no big deal, but they had a 2 minute job to do, and they wanted me to miss a days work so I could come in and let them play with my car all day. Too Much!! Anyway, thanks for letting me vent, and thanks again for the pointers! Mick
