Subject: remote starter on a 08 avalon
Date Posted: September 14, 2010 at 3:30 PM
Hey everyone, I need some help. I am planning on installing a remote starter on a 08 Avalon. The remote starter has an option to either have two ignition out wires or two starter wires. This vehicle requires 2 ignition and 2 starter wires for it to function. What can i do? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
------------- George

There are a few ways to do this. What brand/model remote start are you using?

I am using a Avistart 4100

You need to add an additional relay for the extra output.

Choose either to set up for two ignitions or 2 starters, it doesn't matter which, then the one you have only one of wire as follows.
Join to existing starter or ignition output, take this to a relay and wire as follows.
From existing wire to 86,
Ground to 85,
Constant 12volt with 30 amp fuse to 87,
Output to second wire from 30.

Use the 4101s' flexable output for ING2. Look for a remote start output wire marked (-) 200 mA STARTER RELAY TURN-ON. ( I couldn't find a 4101 Install Guide, but hopefully it has this output. ) Use that output to control an extra 30/40 Amp SPDT relay mentioned above.. Wire as follows.
Relay Pin 85 to (-) 200 mA STARTER RELAY TURN-ON from Avistart
Relay Pin 86 and Pin 87 to +12v constant fused at 20 Amp.
Relay Pin 30 to Cars Second Starter wire.
Relay Pin 87a not used ( insulate). ------------- Soldering is fun!

Yes but Kreg's answers are often more concise.

Are you talking about:
H2/5 BLUE/WHITE (-) 200mA 2nd status/ rear defogger output. That is the only (-)200mA wire i saw on the harness.

Sorry correction to above, where it says 85 to ground, use your GWR or status output wire probably blue or blue/white, if being used for anything else, diode split with the bands towards the Avital and run that wire to 85.

The original status wire is being used by the bypass module. am i able to use the second status/rear fogger wire for it? if not, is there a certain size diode i should use?
Thanks for your help ------------- George

Yes of course, or use the one feeding the by-pass module, split with two 1N4004 diodes, bands towards the Avital.

Okay sounds good. I think i will just hook it up with that 2nd status wire and run a relay. I really appreciate the help. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks ------------- George
