I purchased a canmax400dei to use with my viper 5701. I can't flash it. Xpress VIP sees the USB loader, but it cannot see the canmax. It will always say: "Flash failed - timed out" within a second.

Here's the conversation with autotoys "help" department.

Hi, I got a canmax400dei unit from you guys, but it seems that it is faulty or defective. I can't flash it. It will always say "operation timed out". I can see the XKLOADER2 on all the 3 computers that I tried, but this will just not flash. I've been careful using the pin configuration that is needed, but it just won't work. How do I fix it?

Thanks.

It programs inside a die alarm. You are doing that right?

Sounds like a config problem with your computer

Trevino Posted On: 23 Sep 2010 07:36 PM
Yes, I have it docked in a viper 5701.

I've tried 3 different computers already. I've also tried with xpressVIP3
and 2.9. I don't know what else to try.

Yes, I have done that already, it's really frustrating because I don't know
what else to try.

Trevino Posted On: 23 Sep 2010 08:04 PM
I think somethign might be wrong with it. I also checked the cable with a
multimeter and it works like a charm.

Autotoys Posted On: 23 Sep 2010 08:09 PM
Read the fill article concerning setup

Trevino Posted On: 23 Sep 2010 08:10 PM
That is exactly what I did.

You have power to the dei module right

Trevino Posted On: 23 Sep 2010 08:30 PM
I've tried with and without power, none of the options seem to work. When I
apply power the canmax does turn on the red led. But that is all it does. I
still can't recognize it.

AUTOTOYS.COM STAFF 1 Posted On: 23 Sep 2010 08:36 PM
The power needs power, it doesnt get enough power from the xkloader

And now they closed my ticket.

I don't remember if I tried it with the jumper on before. but in any case, I should be able to flash it manually no? Force the flash. I also know there's a certain revision of the brain that's not compatible, but I can't find a sticker or anything on it to see what rev it is. Not even something printed on the PCB.

if you try to flash it without removing the top jumper you will corrupt it......   all the flashing instructions i have seen say over and over to remove the top jumper on the brain BEFORE attempting to flash.....

I know, but what if it's corrupted? Also, what about the revision of the brain?

Turns out I had an unsupported version of the brain. Everything works now.
