I'm working on a 1999 pontiac grand am. It has no factory keyless entry or alarm. I put a valient (from jc whitney)keyless entry on it. Everything works great. However, when the doors are closed, nothing works at all. I figure it has to do with a theft deterrent system or something like that. I figure I'll need some sort of bypass module for the keyless entry to work. Rght? What do I need and where do I get it? Please help me if you can.

Alarm Hookup
red +12v
black gnd
white gnd
lock white
green white(1500 resistor)
yellow white
brown black wire of alarm(gnd)
orange trunk trigger switch
Since everything works fine with the doors open, I wouldn't think that crossed wires is the problem. The owner told me that the car has numerous built in safety features like the one i described. He told me that ever since he had the car he couldn't lock the doors with the keys in the ignition. So I think its something with the way the car is programmed. Maybe not? Thanks for the help. Please keep it coming!

my 12v is from the power lead to the power mirrors. (only +12 in the entire door!). I had questioned it myself if this were adequate

You have an odd problem. The Grand Am usually does NOT lock with the door open. The only way it will lock is if the doors are closed. Did you use relays to ground the signal from the alarm or did you just use the (-) ground from the alarm and add a resistor to the UNLOCK wire ?

im kinda lost here. did you put the unit in the door??
i would go to the ing. harness to get my power, and switched power wires.
i think i would start over and go to the ign. harness to start off.
keep us updated. ------------- Good Luck

Velocity,
I did not use any relays. Was I supposed to? I just used the (-) ground from the alarm and added a resistor to the UNLOCK wire.
draasch,
Yes my unit is in the door. I can try an alternate +12 surce if you think that would be best.
Thanks to both of yall in advance.

i would only because most of your hook up points will be under the dash. also it will keep moisture out of the unit. and yes i would use two relays...

hope it all works out for you.. ------------- Good Luck
