I am in the process of installing a Prostart remote starter in a 2005 Ranger. The remote start worked great as although all documentation kept refering to transponder security, it worked without any bypass kit. I suspect this vehicle does not have it. I am now at the doorlocks portion. I have located the pink / YELLOW lock and the pink/green unlock wires at the bcm. The remote has two wires that put a 500Ma negative pulse on the lock/unlock lines. When I attach these wires the doors do lock and unlock. What I am curious about is the starter documentation refers to using relays for the unlocking and locking with wiring dependent on whether you want negative or positive pulse. So do I actually need the relays or is it alright to hook directly to the vehicles wiring from the remote starter? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Usually the relays are used for switching the polarity of the "output".
Example, some cars need a (+) pulse instead of a (-). This is where you use a relay.
You should be able to tap into the wire without any relays in your case. I will recommend to use a diode to isolate the wires.

Just putting a diode anywhere along each of the two wires should be ok? Thanks for the advice.

yep. I usually do it at the connection itself.

Bands away from the bcm!

DEI now suggest this on all their units with flip-flop, i.e. 2 wire lock outputs though I've been doing it for some years on Euro-cars with strange glitches on the processors.

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.
