I just bought a car that came with Clifford 5.1 with some kind of Immobilizer card, backup battery, extra interior siren. Should I upgrade to the latest Viper 5901?

Mostly is because I want a 2 way alarm system, and one of the Clifford remote was lost.

If I do upgrade, what can I reuse from the old setup?

Virtually nothing! The Clifford is a better more reliable product but doesn't have 2 way.

So you mean nothing can be reused? I thought at least something can since they are both under the DEI company. Actually I thought the alarm brain would be exactly the same.

OK, I was trying to make you keep the Clifford!
Lock wiring, door, hood and trunk triggers the same, body shape and plugs are different, two immobiliser cuts on the Clifford, one on the Viper, separate starter unit on the Clifford, you haven't told us what vehicle but if there's a by-pass involved, that will be the same though the colours to that and the R/S will be different.
The 5.1 is genuine Clifford and pretty bullet proof, Clifford X models are Viper Clones and interchangeable.

It is for a S2000, it did have starter cut before but didnt quite work according to the previous owner. So the shop changed to fuel cut instead, which need the immobilizer card present to start the car. I dont think there is a by-pass involved since the car didnt come with immobilizer from factory, and the remote start was not installed.

So how did the remote start work?

The remote start function was never installed, basically the whole alarm works as normal car alarm with fuel pump cut which controls by the immobilizer RFID card.
