I am installing an autostart A-2775 remote start on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I have been told by Direct Electronics tech support to use "For the door locks I would use a dlpkgm and for the bypass if one is needed in that car id use a rflch with a pkdock all avalible from expresskit"

Has anyone tried this combo or recommend something different? I am just looking to decrease install time and operate my start and locks with the remote that came with the autostart system.

The easy way to do this vehicle is with an iDatalink module.  I used a ADS DL flashed with ADS DL CH6 firmware on a 2004 recently.  One module did everything, bypass, alarms, locks, Tach signal and brake status.  No need to go into the doors with relays....

If you don't have the ADS USB cable to flash the ADS DL with the correct firmware, get the ADS ALSL CH module.  It comes pre-loaded with the correct firmware.

Here is a link to their WEB site :  https://www.idatalink.com/helpdesk/

Awesome, looks like this will handle everything. One question regarding the RS232 port on the AS-2775. Will this plug in directly to the iDatalink?

Again thanks for all of the help.

Not sure about that.  iDatalink doesn't list a compatability guide that I can find and I don't install the Autostart brand.  A quick call to iDatalink or Autostart should get you the answer.  ( I still prefer going W2W, eliminates any issues...)

Ok, i did the install this weekend and went w2w with the idatalink and autostart 2775. everything looks ok and the led flashing on the bypass is showing it working fine but it starts then stops. It is like the bypass is not reading the transponder code properly. I have reprogrammed the bypass multiple times but still the same. I can get it to start and stay started if I have the key sitting in the ignition.

Any ideas?

Which bypass did you use?  The iDatalink ADS ALSL CH?

Did you follow the wiring guide for Section C Type 1?  Did you set the module to "Standard Mode" as per the instructions on page 27 of the guide before programming to the Jeep?

iDatalink ADS ALSL CH

Followed Section C Type 1.

Set the button for 2 blinks to standard mode. After putting it in standard I confirmed it by pressing the button again and holding the button until it registered.

Proceded with programing the transponder/key as shown.

Lights went through the cycle it was supposed to. When starting by remote it blinks green and no blinking when not in use.

Can the autostart transmitters lock & unlock the doors OK?

When you do the remote start with the "key in", is it just inserted, or inserted and turned to "ON"?

Not familiar with the Autostart unit, what wires do you have connected to the Jeeps' ignition switch?  How is the Pink/White 5th Relay configured?

Everything seems to work fine as far as locks go. When I insert the key (not turned at all) and remote start it starts and stays running but when I just use the remote without any key it goes through the startup and then stop 3 times before it gives up.

The locking and unlocking of the vehicle with the new remote works fine.

Strange problem.  Never had any troube with any iDatalink module.

Can you put a meter on the GWR wire from the remote start to the bypass?  Just to verify the (-) signal is there.  ( Or jumper the wire to ground the same time you press the START button. )

I currently have the panels back on right now so i can get to and from work. I will see if i can get a chance to remove them this week to get to the modules and put a meter on it.

I double checked, with key in (not turned on) the remote starts fine and stays on even when i slide the key back out.

thanks for your help! I will post back with results.

I found the problem, a little mix up on the wiring from the bypass to the ignition. Made the fix and it works like a charm.

The Idatalink module is an excellent choice. Simple programming and only one key needed to program. Thanks for the help!

I have one question regarding the parking light connection. I am told that I need a 1300 Ohm resistor and a relay. Can i just run a wire to the existing parking light relay without a resistor? I have heard of other jeep owners having problem getting confirmation from the parking lights due to the autolamp.

Going to the Jeeps' Parking Light Relay is an option.  Its one of the small relays directly above the fuses, remote start (-) Parking Light output to relay Pin 86.

Thanks for confirming.

Overall everything went well with the install. Time to pick out the next project.

Hello everyone.Proxyguy I was wondering if you wouldn't mind letting me know roughly what this cost you.I ask because this past weekend I went to Bestbuy to purchase their Viper remote start for my 2001 Laredo.I have some gift cards I wanted to use up and the Kit was $200 for a "basic install".They noted that there were additional parts which I understood but after talking to their tech it went from $200 to around $450 and then, since I don't have a 2nd key,I would have to purchase another so I was looking at around $550 give or take when all is said and done.I am unable to do any of it myself but I saw this Autostart system online for a reasonable price but I don't understand anything else that was written in this thread so I have no idea what else I would have to buy and how much labor is involved. Thanks and I greatly appreciate any advice you might have.

You need to do the same as Proxyguy and find a place that uses Idatalink modules. They only require one key for programming and this alone is gonna save you the cost of the key and a trip to the dealer for programming.

Mike is right. This unit replaces mutiple parts if you go with other manufacture bypass units. Depending on model of vehicle the price varies. Mine cost around 90 bucks plus the remote start unit cost. Easy installation, no running wires to the door lucks etc... and nice forum to post questions. Only one key to program the unit.

ok thanks 4 responding. My vehicle is the same as yours now its just a matter of finding someone here in jersey who knows what they are doing and won't try to overcharge me.So basically I could purchase one of these systems(links below) and then either purchase this idatalink module or find someone who uses them to do the install?

Might want to call around first.  Many installers will not want to install a customer supplied system.  There are many reasons for this, not just to make more money.  With the iDatalink modules there is a special USB cable required to flash the correct firmware onto the module.  Not all shops use iDatalink products and have the cable.  Then there is the warranty aspect...

You know it. IMHO you should always buy and install at the same shop no matter what. Think of  the warranty issues, the installer will blame the product and vise versa. Another issue is if you have a product problem who's gonna remove and reinstall it?

Yes I know... although it would be cheaper to purchase the stuff myself online.I went to 3 places today to get prices. They all must use the same setup as they all said the same thing..the truck would need 2 seperate modules,1 for the door locks and then 1 for the key interface. They all said I would have to get a 2nd key made as well. The cheapest price I got was $220 for system and install plus $90 for the key bypass module and $65 for the door lock module. Then whatever it will cost to get a second key which I believe is around $60 at Home Depot. My other option would be too just use my factory remote to continue working the locks and then use the new remote for the car starter. With this option I believe the guy told me the factory alarm would then be disabled.Thinking things over until it gets really cold here and I get the $400+ saved it will take for a comfort I dont NEED but want. Thanks for replying
BTW only one of the installers around me has heard of idatalink and he doesn't use them anymore.
