I am going to be possibly installing a Python 4203P w/ DEI 556U bypass in the car. Anyone ever work on one of these cars before? Any tips or special things to do?

Also, I noticed that the Python 4203P has door lock wires. This is just a 1 button remote starter. I never installed this model system, but im assuming I can just leave out hooking up the door lock wires. Can I do that? Im guessing the door locks on these cars are a pain.

I looked up the wiring for this car. It says to use a 250 ohm resistor for alarm disarm, same wire as arm. And it says straight (-) for alarm arm, same wire as disarm. I would only like to hook up the disarm wire. (I can already tell I might not like working on this car) So would I just wire in a 250 ohm resistor inline of the disarm wire coming from the Python unit? Simple as that?

Thanks.

Anyone?

Should I stay away from this car? I was thinking about just searching for all the wires and if I dont find them....just to give the car back to the guy and tell him to find someone else.

Run a mile, don't touch it, pull a sickie, me thinks that 4203P is totally inadequate for that vehicle, also I think you're looking at a CANMAX 400 unit rather than a 556, if you stick with a 556 (good luck) you will need the factory black plastic valet key, the regular key won't even fit!
Wiring is an absolute PITA. You have 2 x speaker wires, 12V+ constant, ditto ignition and a ground plus 4 x CAN wires going into each front door hence my comments about the CANMAX.
I've got to install the Viper equivalent in an 04 5 Series BMW and I'm also worried about the non-locking facility.

Ok...my first post is wrong. Looked at a wiring diagram for an Audi A6. My mistake. The Audi A4 doesnt say anything about using resistors for disarm wire. It looks to be pretty easy according to the Audiovox wiring diagram, but I bet most of the wires are wrong.

Anyways, the problem is that the customer bought the 556 and has a spare valet key for it. Do you really think I could do this alot easier if I used the CANMAX 400? I never worked on a Cadillac before and used the CANMAX 400 and installed an alarm/remote starter without problems. I know you cant judge my install ablities......

OK from about 03 I wouldn't hard wire any Audi!
On an 02 RS4 I managed to get deadlock and close from the driver kick well but couldn't get an unlock!
The DEI tech manger for the UK is a pal and he joined me to do a sort out, he went to the vacuum pump control/alarm module at the rear assuming that's where it was. Yes you can pick-up the door, tailgate and hood triggers there but still no unlock! Told the customer that I could do non-deadlock lock/unlock but for comfort close he would have to use the factory fob. Not happy.
You have to educate your customer to the fact that because of its complexity you can't use a 556, it has to be a CANMAX, this way he saves the key , in fact by simply using a CANMAX instead of a 556 set up as European wiring, i.e. you don't need the loop the job will actually cost less because there is less labour. I read the CANMAX specific literature, it's good enough to give you by-pass, comfort lock AND window venting, try hard wiring that lot.

Come on Howie... this car is easy !! Use the ADS-AL-CA and this will take care of all your convenience features and acts as a immobilizer bypass ( key wrap ). Shouldn't take you more than 2 hours to do.

I think Howie is trying to scare youposted_image

Jeff, if the ADS-AL-CA is equivalent to the CANMAX 400, then fine. But that's the point I was trying to make and convince godd dan it not to use the 556. Any of these from 2002 on are a PITA if you have to hard wire them, not too bad with a CAN conversion box.
