I'm going to install an alarm in our '83 volkswagen. I want a 2-way alarm with good range, so I've been looking at the SST alarm models from DEI. As far as I can tell, these all include remote start, right?

I don't want remote start, so my plan is to get an SST model like the Python 991 and just not install the remote start.

Anyone know of any good 1-mile range 2-way alarms that don't include remote start? Otherwise, I guess I'll just have an extra button on my remote.

the maximum i can find is 2000 ft of range. unless it includes remote start. 1 question: why do you want 1mile range for a security system. its usually for remote start purposes only that extremely long range would be needed. the only thing you would get for security is an alert if the alarm goes off. but by the time you get to your car a potential thief is long gone. do you park your car over a half mile away regularly?

Hi Blanx,
thanks for the reply!

It's true that my car is not usually parked 2000 ft away, but I'm in a city and my understanding was that these ranges are upper ends of the estimates which are not really reached in crowded urban environments.

Also, for just the product (no installation charges) it seems like I wouldn't be saving that much by getting one of the 2000ft 2-way non-remote-start systems, and I've noticed now that even those systems would have the extra button (since they support remote-start add-ons).

I guess at this point I don't see much of a disadvantage to getting the 991 and just not installing the remote start feature. Are there any that I'm missing?
