Hi,

I have installed a Python 2 way remote start in a 2010 Dodge Ram using the Chrysler XpressKit and Chall to interface to the factory wiring. This is all working fine, but now I am adding a SmartStart module and have run into an issue:

From what I can tell, the SmartStart module hooks into the Chall module using the 4 pin D2D port, the problem is, this is also where the Xpresskit hooks into. How do I hook all 3 components together? Is there a Y cable that allows all 3 modules to be hooked into the D2D ports? If so, would it work if I just piggybacked onto the wiring going from the xpresskit to the Chall for the Smartstart module?

The SmartStart install manual only shows how to connect this either directly to Chall, or directly to an expresskit, but not using all 3.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance.

I have never installed one of these but according to the manual I found online the connection to the remote start is made with the  3 pin  bitwriter plug and not the 4 pin D2D.

Thank you for the reply. Can you direct me to the manual you found? It sounds like it has much more detail than the one I am using, maybe it can help me sort this out.

Thanks again.

What model Python do you have? Im a DEI dealer and have full access to the diagrams. Once you give me the model of the R/S I can tell you where to plug it in. There may also be a possibility that the CHALL would need to be hardwired.

My viper 5901 remote start connects to my smartstart module using the 5901's bitwriter port . Something about your install just doesnt sound right . First of all a chall  is a xpresskit . You state you have a chall connected to a xpresskit .

Why on earth would you connect 2 xpresskit modules ? I have a 2010 ram also & only the chall is needed . It does the  bypass & door locks which makes me wonder why you would connect 2 xpresskit modules .

Your remote start should connect to your challs D2D port & the smartstart connects to the remote starts bitwriter port if done correctly .

Anyone figure this out. I bought a VSS5000 (SmartStart plus Security) which has a 4 pin Smart Start connector.

From what I can tell, this plugs into the d2d port of the brain, but I need that port for the DB-ALL.

Here is a pic:

I had this issue the other day, Directed said that the Smart Start has to be plugged in the D2D port and I had to wire the interface module wire for wire.

I found this document:
https://directed.com/smartstart/blackberry/Documents/QRNDSM200_2010-08_web.pdf

It seems to suggest the both the SmartStart module and a bypass module can run in D2D mode. My DB-ALL hasn't arrived yet, but I will check to see if it comes with a Y cable.

My DSM200 is connected to the bitwriter port on my Clifford RSX3.5. When talking to DEI tech they said if you plug it into the bitwriter port on just about any system it will work. you can tell if you connect it and have a solid green light on the smart start. if your green light is flashing or not on it will not work

usually the Smart Start module plugs into the 3 pin black Bitwriter port and the Chall (or any bypass module) plugs into the 4 pin brown D2D port......
