Subject: viper 5301 no confirmation of start

Hi:

I recently had an authorized Viper dealer install a Viper 5301 2-way remote start in my 2001 Subaru Outback. When the remote is used, I get audible confirmation on the remote that the signal was received at the vehicle. However, I don't get confirmation on the remote that vehicle actually started.

This is an issue, for it was well below zero degrees this morning. I used the remote to start the vehicle. I received audible confirmation; however, the car did not actually start.

I've had other 2-way remote start systems (Compustar, Autostart) that would send confirmation back to the remote only after the car actually started.

Is it possible for the Viper 5301 remote starter to send confirmation back to remote only after the car actually started?

Thanks.

You should get a green LED next to the remote start button to indicate that the remote start has received the remote start signal.

Hi:

Yeah, I do get the light confirmation also that the remote start unit "received" the signal. However, there I'm not getting any confirmation that the car actually started. This morning it was below zero degrees. I pressed the start button on the remote and got both audible and visual confirmation on the remote that the signal was received at the car, but the car did not actually start. I went out and started the car with the key.

As stated in my first posting, I've had other remote start systems that sent confirmation back to the remote only after the car actually started, not just that the remote start in vehicle received the signal from the remote.

Thanks

On my  5301, if the car does not start after three tries I will get an error message to the two way remote. Red LED on the F key and a nasty tone I believe.

thats right... it will give you a green LED and upsweep tone when it receives the start command... if it fails to start after 3 attempts it will notify the remote as such.....

if you are worried if it actually started hold the remote in your hand for about 1 minute....

I just installed the same (Viper 5301 LE) remote starter in my 04 Sienna - have the same issue with this system...

Surprised that the 2way remote doesn't get confirmation from the system as soon as it starts successfully.

How do you know that your vehicle has successfully started without taking the extra steps checking for runtime, vechicle temp etc.?

However, I do get confirmation right on a failed start - checked by inducing a fail start by pressing the brake pedal during start up.

No confirmation on successful start up - is this normal for this system?

the Viper 2-way units just tell you whether the vehicle received the start command.... they will try to start 3 times and if it fails to start it will send out a "failed start" message.... either red light on LED model or message on LCD model....

similar to using the lock/unlock feature... they tell you whether the vehicle received the lock command, they dont actually monitor whether the door is locked or not....

Thank you Sir for clearing that up!

Didn't know Vipers behaved this way. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to know your vehicle is starting properly everytime -meaning - one the first try for example so any issues could be debugged right away.

From all the research I did prior to install, didn't have a clue Vipers don't confirm successful startup.

Thanks again..
