Subject: viper 5900 cannot learn routine

I recently installed a Viper 5900 into a 2005 f150. The alarm works as it should except that i cannot get it to enter the learn routine, or the tach learning or valet mode. all of these modes require the use of the button and switching of the ignition. I have double checked these connections and they look good. The remote start attempts to crank the car but will stop abruptly (i assume becuase it has not done tach learning). Has anyone experienced this before or know what might be wrong?

Have ypu plugged the ribbon into the xcrs? Have you verified the ignition with a meter? Is the valet switch plugged in?

Have you plugged the ribbon into the xcrs?

- Yes

Have you verified the ignition with a meter?

- Yes

Is the valet switch plugged in?

- Yes

When i was checking the ignition wires i realized that i did not connect the 2nd ignition wire on the viper alarm. That is just capped off. On the 2005 f-150 it shows no secondary ignition circuit. Is it correct to just capped off the wire or should it be spliced into the 1st ignition wire as well?

Correct and make sure the green door trigger wire is grounded when you programme it. It should go to ground when the door is opened.

Sorry i am a little confused about what is correct:

To leave the 2nd capped   or

to splice the 1st and second ignition wires together on the viper.

also i have double checked that the viper sees ground when a door is opened.

No leave the second wire capped.

Let me get this straight:

I believe, according to the manual that it will enter the mode when it sees ground on the green wire AND 12+ Volts coming in on the the ignition wire (pink wire) followed by no voltage on the ignition and then having the pins for the button tied to together for three seconds.

If this is correct, i am very confident that the system does encounter those conditions with my install. I have checked that these signals come in using a multimeter. is there any way the unit could be locked to the point that it will not recognize any button press? or that it simply does not sense voltage on the ignition?

The wierd part about that however is that the car will start normally with key and it will also attempt to crank the truck for about half a second. That would reinforce in my mind that the system is hooked up correct.

The only other thing not hooked up is the tach wire because i was not sure if the unit could handle the voltage at the fuel injector as the install guide suggests. (I measure 30 volts AC both from injector and from the coil)

This should not effect it from entering learn routine though.

i will say that it seems the unit just refuses to recognize any button press (i have checked that the button does close contact using a multimeter). It will also not disarm the system when i give it the appropriate amount of button presses. any thoughts?

Check the voltage between ground and your red wires, should be 12.3 volts at least.
You're looking at 3-5 VAC at the correct injector wires.
If all else fails, get a bitwriter, dump everything, the remotes might be locked...not supposed to happen with new product but if you purchased from FleaBay.....
