Hey so just installed a Autopage RS-665 2W into a 04 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel with factory alarm. I didn't use the siren with the Autopage and instead programed a wire on the alarm to wire up to the factory horn.
HORN OUTPUT, (-) 200mA output
(See Alarm Feaure A - 6 Programming)
This provides a negative output to be connected to the vehicles negative horn trigger. This is a transistor output and should be connected before the factory horn relay.
After wiring this up, the horn worked, for example when locking and unlocking the doors. But after a few more tries I noticed that it only works roughly every second time.
I lock, it beeps, lights flash etc.
I unlock, then lock again, and only the lights flash.
I unlock, then lock again, and the horn beeps and the lights flash.
And on and on. Any idea why this would be?

common issue. i think it has something with the ground sent from the unit is too weak. i've heard of people using a relay to it but i've never bothered.

I think it might be something that will bother me after a while. I rather just do it right haha.
How could I wire a relay for that?

pin 85 to +12v constant, pin 86 to (-) horn output, pin 87 to ground, pin 30 to horn wire in the vehicle

Hey so just wired up that relay for the horn, and it almost made it worse. Now when I lock, there is never a horn sound. And when pressing lock again (for 6 honks, parking locator) the horn honks but its a little hit and miss and like not full length honks.
I wired the relay as follows
Pin 85 - 12v (Fused at 5 Amps)
Pin 86 - (-) Horn Output From Alarm
Pin 87 - Ground
Pin 30 - Truck Horn
Did I mess up? Is there something I am missing, I checked the wiring multiple times. When I lock the truck the relay doesn't active, but when doing the parking location I feel the relay working.

Yeah so for sure dont know whats going on.
I can get like a solid 10 honks in a row when locking and un locking repeatedly. But then like after lets say ten, no more honking when locking for 5 more trys. Sooo messed.

can you program how long the pulse is on the horn wire? i know on dei units you can. uncertain on that one.
You could also just go ahead and wire up the siren...

Yea I think I might resort to having to hook up the sinen. I dont believe so but I will try looking. Also do you think if I took the 12v siren output and switched the polarity with a relay it would work any better. Or is that even possible?

Yes, negative output to positive output is possible.
There are many, many relay diagrams on this site that show you a lot of options. Here is the neg to pos output diagram.

The problem occurs on many Chrysler products and it's because of a delay from the horn relay. The real only way to cure it is to add a relay and go directly to the horn with a positive pulse. Do it like you have the relay above but put 87 to 12volts and pin 30 directly to the horn(not just the horn wire in the truck).

You can get it at the horn relay in the box under the hood but prefer just going directly to the horn itself....

Ok thanks, sorry for all the questions. Any idea where the horn is located? And best way to get at it? Any idea of the wire color im looking for? Or best to probe with multi meter anyways.

Only one wire on a horn, honk it and find out where it is(It's always in the grill).... ------------- Mike M2
