I am about to start cutting wires and soldering on my 2003 Silverado to install the Viper 5301 remote start. Below are a few pictures of the dash taken apart. I was wondering if anyone had a picture of thoie viper remote start installed so i could see where ther ran the wires. This is my first remote start but from the pictures, is it the large guage wires (red, yellow, white, pink, orange, and brown) i will be conecting to? Also can i tap in right there or does it have to be behind/ on the back side of the harness? Thanks for the help

You're on the right track. I'll comment more later when I can mark your photos - what part are you using for the door lock interface and/or Passlock bypass?

Also, I have a peripheral PGMDLBP bypass. I bought this one first but decided to go with the xpresskit because it was made by DEI like the Viper. Any input on the Peripheral?

That Peripheral piece is a rebadged Bypasskit part, possibly designed by one of the same engineers who did the DLPKGM. It should work just fine.

I'd use whatever bypass that would be harder to return/less expensive.

Either one of those bypasses connect at the OBDII plug, so you don't need to worry about finding the Passlock wires.

Also, the BCM will slide out towards the driver's seat, and you can maneuver it down towards the brake pedal. IMHO that makes it easier to connect wires there.

Sorry for "stupid" questions but is the BCM the black box in the middle of the 2nd picture? Does it disconnect? I think i have seen this in another install picture but it looked like it was the back side of the box, not the side i can see in the picture? This should be where i connect the H3 harness wire, right.

The DLPKGM wires seem straight forward to the truck, i just need the black ground to kick panel and the Purple to the purple wire on the 2 pin OBD II correct?

Also, i have read that i should disconnect the battery AND that i shouldnt disconnect? I always thought it was safer to disconnect?

Thanks for the help guys...I'm gonna start the install tonught after work.

OK guys. I got everything hooked up tonight. Right now it is just put in place and wrapped with elec tape. I plan on soldering everything once i figure out whats going on. I hooked the battery up but i'm not sure how to go about programing it. I'm in VA and its 16 deg outside (they say 2 deg with wind chill) so i called it a night. When i tried to lock and unlock the lights blinked indie and headlight but it wouldnt lock or unlock. Also, the remote start gave me the error beep and then had 7 flashes? I will have all night tomorrow to work on it if you can point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the input.

Are you saying that you have two RED Constant 12volts at the ignition?  Bulldog lists only one.  7 flashes means the unit is in the Manual Mode. Needs to be changed to AUTOMATIC if your truck is an auto.  Menu 3, Item 1, Option 2.

Below is a picture of my IGN harness and the wiress i am slicing into. There is also a Brown in the IGN that is hidden but it has nothing going to it. The  H/3 2 RED / White is connected @ Red IGN ( the IGN switch has 7 wires: 3 on the top Pink - Red - Brown and 4 on the bottom White - Yellow - Red - Orange) This H/3 2 RED / white is connected to the red on the top row. The H/3 5 Red & 8 RED / Black are connected to the Red IGN on the bottom row.

Also, i'm still confused on how to change it from Manual to Auto. Do i need to have the DLPKGM hooked up for this and should i have to program the remote? Right noe when i have the control plug hooked up, it constantly blinks blue. I also have the jumpers on the Viper vertical. Is this correct?

And, do i need the  Violet/whiteTach wire hooked up coming from the DLPKGM(its not right now)? I have the door lock and unlock hooked upfrom the DLPKGM to the viper 3 PIN. I'm using the D2D now, should i go W2W?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks

to be honest from the looks of that i would just walk away.....

https://www.xpresskit.com/DocumentDownload.aspx?documentid=6027&productid=125&firmwareid=1633

here is the manual for the dlpk it makes it VERY SIMPLE. it's an easy truck. about 4 wires to hook up with d2d(i don't recommend it)

and like 12 hooked up w2w. again not a whole lot because it's mainly from bypass to unit wiring.

tach you should hook up to the white wire at the cluster.

the viper manual will clearly tell you how to program it for automatic mode.
turn key on then off, then hold programming switch, horn will honk, continue holing, horn will honk twice, continue to hold, horn will honk 3 times, then press the button once more and then once again but you hold it this time. you will hear a single horn honk, press lock or unlock on the viper fob until it honks twice.

Have you tested and verified with a DMM that both of the RED wires at the ignition harness are 12 volts constant?

In D2D Mode of the DLPKGM instructions, I don't see a connection for Lt. Green and Blue.  Only in W2W Mode.

Wire Guide from AudioVox:   Only one RED listed for 12 volts constant, so test those RED wires at Ignition.  Brown is listed as Accessory 2. But you need to test and verify with a DMM.

Follow the previous post for getting the unit into AUTO Mode.

Below is what my IGN harness looks like. You can see it in my pictures but here is a drawing with a few notes. There are definately 7 wires here ( not 6 like above)

Another problem is i have no NORN honk. I dont think i hooked this up - do i need it or does it just make it easier to program?

I will hook the Tach to the white wire at the cluster when i get home ( except it it snowing right now)

Any thoughts on which RED @ IGN i should be using? i guess on i wrong.

The only way to know for sure what the RED wires are is to test them with a DMM.  The 12 volts constant should have 12 volts on the wire all the time. Just because the is a RED wire there does not mean it is a correct wire.

Go to the download section of this site and download the Viper 5701 INSTALL Guide/Manual.    Starting on page 13 is a section on locating the wires you need.  You need to use a DMM, it is the only way to know what you are connecting to on the vehicle.  The wiring guide are not always correct.

Having the horn connected will help in knowing which menu you are in and which feature/option.  It take a bit of timing, practice, and cooridinated button pressing.

Set it on the DC side.  20 if it is on the scale.

I cant walk away now...i thought this has gone pretty smooth refering to the actual install.

So your saying, from looking at my wires post above, all i need to hook up is my TACH wire? Should i hook up tach behind dash cluster or through engine bay. Also, why is the lock and unlock on the remote not working, im just getting the dash and headlights to flash?

My horn wire is NOT hooked up so when trying to program, i get nothing but the blue light flashing. Do i need the horn hooked up and if i do, what wire is it on the steering column? Left or right side?

Thanks for the help guys...I think im close but i just need to be walked through it.

OK guys.... I got everything to WORK!

The biggest thing was hooking up the H/1 3 Brown horn wire to the Black BCM pin 9 wire(grey pug). This let me hear the programing honks.

The truck locks and unlocks, and the remote start works.

Thanks for all the help. I'm not in the clear yet, still have to solder everything and make it look stock again ( this should be fun)

I'll keep you posted and again THANKS.
