Hello,

I plan on purchasing a Viper 5101 Remote Start/Keyless Entry system. I've never installed a remote start or alarm, so what I'm trying to find out is what modules or extra things need to be purchased to make that alarm work in my 2004 Ford Taurus. The car has PATS. I only have one key, and I lost the door/trunk lock remote control that came with the car.
I found wiring information on this website already, and I'm very comfortable with wiring in the system, I just don't know exactly all the items I need to make it work properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2 options for bypasses

1) get another key programmed, get a key in box bypass
2) purchase an idatalink cable, idatalink bypass, and contact customer support for a custom firmware that allows one key programming.

Your first problem will be the fact that you only have one working key.  All bypass modules require two working, non-clone keys to program.  You will need to visit the Ford dealer to have another key made and programmed to the car.

Thanks for the replies. I called the Ford dealer, and a new key will cost $100...so it looks like I'll probably go that route. Is there any specific PATS bypass module you'd recommend over another?

if your key is the old style,,you could take the transponder out and fix it to the ring that reads it. Look at the top of your key and if you see a lil cut out ,,you could do it this way.

I have done a few 2004-2007 Taurus' with the DEI 1000F bypass module ( actually a re-badged iDatalink product ).  It is easy to wire up / program and is very reliable.  It has been discontinued but available "on line" for less than $12.
