Hello everyone,
I am going to be installing an Avital 5303 with a XK09 Bypass module in my Fiances 2007 Chevy Malibu. Now I understand that he XK09 will probably need to be reflashed. On the back it says KLPKGM, which also on the expresskit web site says that is the firmware I will need. So is there a need to flas or did I luck out?

Also in the install manual downloaded from expresskits web site I see that I need to do the install according to install number 1. With this it has me cutting 2 ignition wires and using one relay connected to a gray signal wire coming from the XK09.

What is the relay for, can I get by without using it? Also what is the need for cutting wires,is that also necessary?
Here is a link to the install:

https://xpresskit.com/DocumentDownload.aspx?documentid=6590&productid=447&firmwareid=1876

I would rather not cut the wires or use a relay. I am basically looking to hook up remote start, door lock and unlock. I think the D2D port will control the security system such as door monitors and that stuff so the siren will be hooked up on the 5303. Also would like the trunk to open.

If the relay and cutting wires is just for a starter kill then I would rather skip that part, not too worried about the starter kill.

Thanks so much. I never installed a remote start that required relays and cutting wires, just taping into them. Also never had to use a bypass module either....

the relays and cutting of wires is needed. don't try to fight it. if you aren't competent enough to do it then take it to somebody who is.

Ok that is fine I have no problem doing that I was just wondering what the relay was for. Because if it was just for a starter kill i was going to skip that.

My other concern was voiding any warranty on the vehicle if I cut any wires instead of tapping into them.

One other question how do I tell if the firmware is dlpkgm 1.01 or 2.03 all it says on the back is dlpkgm.

The only way to verify the XK09 firmware and version is with a XKLoader cable connection from a PC with internet access.  The XK09 can be loaded with many different firmwares and versions of same.

The relay in the Type 1 diagram is not for starter kill and must be included with your install.

The dealer can't cancel / void your warranty because you cut a wire.  He can charge you a whole bunch for any repairs due to your wiring errors.
