We installed an alarm in one the other day, customer calls today and says the doors do not lock when she puts the car in gear. I have seen this feature on some vehicles. I do not remember seeing it on a Honda. If it did have this feature, can it be programmed back in?

Some Hondas do have an auto lock feature. If the customer has the owner's manual....it should have something in it about it.

Thanks Dan, after doing a little more research, that feature goes all the way back to 95 on those vehicles. I have not found specifics on the 02, but I am sure a Honda forum will be able to help with that. Thanks again

In the manual there is a relock function. where If they key is in the barrel it will not lock(prevents key being locked in side) Havnt personally experianced the no lock problem when its in gear.
I work with lots of hondas so i will seee what i can pull up. ------------- Ted

Thanks Tedmond, I did find some info earlier. To engage the feature you have to sit in the car with the door closed and hold the lock button on the drivers door untill you hear it click, then keep holding till it clicks again, then release the button and kill the key within 5 seconds. To disengage it, same process except the door is to remain open.

Turns out that the info I got was for the 03 and newer models. I am getting conflicting info, the dealership says that feature is not available until the 03 model year. Customer swears she had that feature before we installed the alarm with keyless entry.
The vehicle is an LX model. If anybody knows of one with this feature, please let me know.

I used to work at a Honda dealership. Wish I could help more, but I dont know much about the older Hondas.
If worst comes to worst, ask the customer if they would be ok with ignition controlled door locks. (That is if the alarm you installed has that feature) -------------

Turns out that the reason she came to us for an alarm was because she lost the remote for her (what she thought) factory keyless entry. It was an aftermarket unit. The alarm we put in her car did have that feature available. Thanks for all that responded.
